I logged into FFXI the other day for the first time in probably two months. No sooner do I connect and the area loads than I see a shout conversation througout the entire zone in which several people are organizing a "protest battle" to go fight Leviathan (the water elemental summon) in protest of the tsunami and as a show of support for its victims. I really can't handle people being that truly stupid, so I immdediately logged back out.

So, if I were to move to another game, what would you guys suggest? My brief sojourn into EQ bored me, and SWG was just stupid. I'm looking for something that needs a bit more intelligence, and ideally something in which nobody will try to organise any "protest battles". The more complicated and complex and multi-faceted the game is, the better. But the players have to be a lot more mature than what I've been dealing with for two years. Any suggestions?

Well, with any online game, you're gonna hve your 13 year old morons who think that a protest against a catastophic natural event will somehow improve the general welfare of the public. BUT, i have to say, i have been playing WoW, and have found that the maturityt level seems to be a step above all other games i've played. Of course, that could be just the people i've interacted with...

That server just set the entire FFXI community back from a "protest battle."

Well I was going to suggest WoW until reading your post it sounds like a time sink is what you're looking for. I know you said you were bored with EQ but have you checked out EQ2?

Im currently playing both and enjoy both for completely diffrent reasons.

EQ2 is definitely a time sink. You do invest more time into you character. Also, the quests are a bit more complex then WoW but not as complex as EQ1. Up to level 15 or so you can solo fine, and at the 15th mark, you can solo but a lot slower, or start LFG. The graphics are amaizing, but in order to play it, you need to have a well equipped computer or you're looking at spending quite a bit. You truely feel you're apart of the game when you play EQ2.

WoW is gaming lite. And thats what I like about it. I can pop on for 15 minutes, actually get something accomplished, then go about my merry way. I am only up to level 14 in WoW but i have noticed you can solo well if you think your strategy out (depending on class) and you can do fine. I also never have been into tradeskilling before, but the tradeskills are so simple I can get stuff done easily and see progress.

Depending if you're looking for something to really absorb yourself into, or if you're looking for light entertainment, each game fills it's role. I play both just depending on my mood. Lately I have been burnt out on the timesink and have enjoyed a few days of total WoW. Im sure I'll change back and forth.

As for mentalilty, I wish I could say they are more mature, but it's always a mixed bag. I dont see too many idiots in either game, but every once in awhile I come across a nitwit. Usually I just avoid them if that happens.

Hope this helps Sabo

Sabo..I would also suggest EQ2. I play it and FFXI, and there are some similarities. EQ2 is just as complex as FFXI, but there is more character development, and it is much easier to find a group. The mentality of the players seem to be more mature than the recent FFXI invasion. If it wasn't for the time and commitment to the LS, I would leave FFXI for EQ2.
Crafting in EQ2 is easier to level than in FFXI, and pays better benefits too!

If you try it, I am on the Befallen server. You would be Welcome in our guild.

That's why I quit FFXI long ago, people do so many stupid things, it baffles me.

I'm going to play EQ2 soon, if I can get a cheap graphics card.

But I haven't seen anything very good coming out, but a game called Guild Wars comes out next month, looks pretty good.

You may want to give Wish a try. It's in semi-open beta atm. They're activating accounts randomly as they feel the server can handle it. So you sign up and get lucky and start playing in just a day or so.

I am now seriously debating whether or not to join Wish. I had never heard of it until today, but upon seeing they have the race Cyclops and you can be any class you want, I am definitely going to purchase it and make a bow wielding toon named...

...wait for it...

Wish Beta is now closed to new entries

1st impressions? Shite

I'll give it a while longer, but not optimistic.

Sab, considered 'Pong'? Low hardware requirements, no spamming, no level limits and you can play without getting bored for, oh, minutes.

You're catching on Yanari, for a girl you are pretty smart.

Now if we were asking opinions on how to prepare thanksgiving dinner I would be more than happy to accept your opinion, but since we are not go watch your soap operas and let the men discuss the important stuff Smiley: wink2

I guess their logic was that, since Leviathan's trademark move is a devistating tidal wave, by beating him they'd be showing that evil tsunami who's boss, or some bullshit. I dunno.

So yeah, I need a new game. I might check out EQ2, once I'm sure my computer can handle the base requirements. Cheers everyone.

Sab, I joined my old EQ guild in EQ2, and let me tell you...I LOVE IT! Some people say it's too *spoonfed*, that's crap. It is certainly easier than FFXI, but calling it spoonfed? In WoW, you can level quick, I mean really quick, where is the challenge in that? Obviously people are going to tell you *their* game is best. I don't know which is best, but I'm in EQ2 and loving it.

I'm also in the EQ2 boat. I tried WoW for a little bit in the open beta, and while I don't hate it, it just didn't grab me for some reason. I think part of it was the constant spam in the general chat channel. I may have just ended up on a crap beta server.

I'm having a lot of fun in EQ2. If you pick that up and want to play on a RP preferred server, I'm on Lucan.

WoW is a timesink at the later levels. Past level 40, the quests start being less of an option for leveling, and the need to grind greater. It's better than FFXI, but once you're in the 50s, you're looking at 8 hours of a grind to level.

PvP in it is great, though, some of the best I've seen. I had some great fun the other night raiding the human capital.

Wish looks like it has potential, but from what I've been hearing, it's all ruined by lag.

My hopes are still all placed on Vanguard, though.

Yep, sounds like true FFXI moran fashion. I'm looking at WoW for a new start at something fun other than working out and studying. I need to upgrade my computer first, but I needed to anyways.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the rat-race for leveling. I liked EQOA's 10 level difference for xp, but FFXI's 2-3 level difference was a pain. ANyone know the range for WoW?

You won't be grouping much in WoW. Instances, maybe, but besides that, not really.

However, 5-6 levels won't make much of a difference. EXP is based on how many people are in the party, and your level relative to the monster, not the highest level.

It's not like FFXI or EQ where you have to be in a group with defined rolls. You don't sit there and fight monsters 5-6 levels higher than you for EXP.

The EXP you get grinding is you, sitting there killing mobs with low HP or armor, over and over again, about 1-2 levels above/below you.

Grouping is for quests you can't do solo.

Excellent, so the old healer/tank/melee crap is thrown out? Or just in a different form? Also, I saw a few videos with the Hordes attacking tha Alliance which looked pretty interesting. Do they have raids on buildings or lands that you can defend, or was the straight PvP I was watching?

No im on a non PVP server and they still attack and you can attack as well. It loks like you can make yoursekf PVP with no lasting effects in WoW. It will eventually wear off. So even if youre not on a PVP server you can still raid the opposiong faction, or need to defend your cities.

It's still there, but you don't have to have it. Doing dungeons and such, you will want someone to tank, and someone to heal, but in parties just taking on a quest a few levels higher than you, you can just grab a handful of people to go in.

I play on a PvP server, so we just kill each other whenever we see each other, but if you're in the world defense channel, you can always see that some part of the world is being raided, with counter-raids going on.

Well, the only MMORPG I've ever played was FFXI anyway. I was considering getting EQ2 just to try it out...that or City of Heros, simply cause I'm a geek like that.

Hey Sabo, everyone keeps telling me that SE bit the big one with the recent update. lol I haven't been on the game since November when my mother board decided to retire.

Eventually, I'll get my comp back up and running again....by either the end of this month or the end of Febuary (Or march...or april...or may....or.........)
