Misbehaving kids missed out on presents this year. I guess that story of being naughty or nice might be more then just a scare tactic for some.

Idiot father. Really, he is just provoking his son to flip out on the family. What kind of stupid thing to do was that?

Actually Im totally with the father. What kind of consequence are you showing your kids if you dont follow through? The kids were warned by both parents, they continued being cruel to each other. I always heard Santa does not bring goodies to naughty boys and girls. The kids will notbe hurt by having gifts taken away. They might, in fact, learn that when their parents say something, they actually mean it

Yep, good move. He probably should have done it long ago, but better late than never.

I agree with the father as well. If parents dont teach the kids how to behave, they will just get worst. If fact one of the kids dared his father to do it, so it is not like the kids just acted up once and were perfect the rest of the time. So what they lost a toy, but will hopefully learn something from it.

Hmmm...well they do need punishment, of course. The son that dared his father is the one most deserving to the punishment, in this case I would agree with the father. However, children will be children. This could go two ways: they lean to rebellion, they lean to future compliance with their parents. But it is such a harsh punishment to ruin a child's christmas.

I'm amazed that he actually went through with it. Kudos to him for showing some backbone and putting his kids in their places.

This was not a harsh punishment, wow they lost toys, that is all kids care about for christmas none of the other stuff. The punishment was fair, the kids are not hurt in anyway but missing some toys. BTW if I was one of the parents all they would of gotten was the socks and underware after that.

As far as leading to rebeling, it will happen no matter what, but atleast if the parents stick to their guns when the children are young they will make more of an impression. If the father let the children walk all over him now in a couple of years when the kids are older they will try to push it further and further. Until eventually the parents will have to take a stand, but by then it is too late, the kids are spoiled and wont tolerate their parents stoping them from doing what they want.

What's amazing is that this is considered noteworthy.

In other breaking news, I took a dump today.

I agree with the dad, too. It's just one Christmas, the kids won't die. And maybe they learned something.

Yup. It's teaching them that their parents feel really guilty when they punish them.

Sorry, but these parents are pretty weak.

Yes, we took away their games, but we're sitting around crying about it (though Dad is crying on the inside and broadcasting it via the local newspaper).

Maybe they were sad that their children were acting this way. Maybe the wish that they could have given their children gifts instead of disiplining them. Maybe they're sad because punishing their children doesn't give them warm and fuzzy feelings on the inside.

But then again, it's totally unaceptable for a parent to disipline there child/children and feel bad about it. They should feel good about it, and always try to let there children act however they want without the child/children to suffer any of the consequences of being a spoiled, materialistic, overly defiant little brat.

Maybe a better argument would be that it might be the parents fault that their children put so much value into material goods?

Or maybe not... I'm no parent but thats the way I see it. I'm not looking for anyone to agree with me, but are there any parents out there that could set me straight on this subject?

I think it's okay for parents to let their kids know that the punishment imposed bothers them.

What bugs me about it is the selling of the gifts. To me, recouping the money dilutes the message. If they'd been pushed hard enough to cancel Christmas my parents would have made us go to the church and put them in the collection box ourselves. Let some poor kids enjoy the crap we didn't deserve.

I get upset almost every time I discipline one of my kids. It's especially tough when it's the little guy, and he bursts into tears. I feel about an inch tall, even though the dicipline is justified. It's hard to hold my ground sometimes. That's why I applaud these parents, because I know I most likely would have broken down and not done the deed.

Well, I for one think he did a great job of humiliating his kids in public, the ***. The kids in their classes will eventually find out who these children are, kids can be very cruel to each other.

I think Dad needed to get his *** kicked a long time ago, kids don't make bad parents. Bad parents though can certainly produce bad children. Making their punishment a public spectacle just proves how bad his parenting skills are!

Somehow I have strong doubts that you're allowing your child to be a rude little monster, in which case, the situation will never arise.

Yes, thank you, that's the other half of what bugs me about this: the publicity.

Make them take the gifts to a charity or a church to be given away. Do it privately, and don't gripe about the money - the money isn't the point, and if you can't afford to lose it you shouldn't have spent it in the first place.
