Well, for what it's worth, I think that the key to being accepted in the Asylum is to not care much whether or not you're accepted. Just post, and don't CONSTANTLY be a fuckwad in every post. I haven't been posting here that long myself, but you don't see me trying to come off as the premiere badass of the board just to impress. I post in topics that interest me and ignore the ones that don't. And I never take anything that's said to me / about me personally.

See, you have to have a sense of humour about yourself to be able to post here. If you decide to get all "butt-hurt" any time someone flames you or makes a crack at your expense, you should probably be posting in OoT instead. Because I don't decide to PMS every time someone calls me a *** or flames me or tells me to GFM and because I try to be at least somewhat respectful of the board regulars (after all, this was their board before it was anyone else's), I'm mostly ignored. And when I'm not ignored, people usually respond to me with serious, well-thought-out posts.

I think your problem, Goose, is that you take things waaaaay too seriously. I mean, you know I think well enough of you so I'm not saying this to insult you, but you do tend to get all worked up any time someone says something negative. That's not really a good way of handling posting here, because you have to have a really thick skin to handle it. And you have to be here long enough to understand the regulars a bit before you can really jump into the conversation.

For example, Skeet's kinda the mascot of the Asylum. I never take him seriously, so I always enjoy everything he posts. Totem toggles between waxing philosophical and being the class clown, so you have to have a pretty good idea of what he's talking about to know whether he's being serious or not. Joph's one of the really nice ones that seldom gets into the flame-fests, so most of what he posts is really classy and worth reading. Nobby's insanely funny and has a very sharp wit, so you have to look at all of his posts as comedy. Moe's menopausing, so everything he says is a flame directed at someone, but he usually posts really good stuff (albeit peppered with "fuck off you mongoloid midget" and the like). Twiztid is awesome about chiming in with the most subtle and clever remark in the thread, but then he mostly stays quiet unless he really has a good one, so all of his posts are read-worthy.

My point is that all the regulars have a different style. Some of them are a lot less "nice" than others, but they all serve a purpose here. And they've been here for a whole lot longer than we have. Regardless that this is an open board and anyone can post here, it's still THEIR board. I come here and read the threads because I enjoy reading what they have to say, especially on the political or philosophical threads. The Asylum tends to attract the most witty and intelligent people on Allakhazam, but they're not all Care Bears. You have to just roll with the punches, and give as good as you get without being an insufferable ****** in the process. When I flame someone here (with the sole exception of GayJCN), I'm not serious and I'm not actually upset. And when someone does a good job flaming me, I usually fall into a laughing fit and rate them up for it.

Now, I'm not just addressing you with this, but it seems like you've been having trouble "getting it" lately. But many others seem to as well, so this is a blanket statement for ALL the newcomers: while there's a lot of flaming and arguing and trolling and such here, that's not the PURPOSE of this board. It seems like too many people come to post here just because they know the swear filter isn't enforced here and they think this is the "go act like a mooglefucker" board. That's not the point at all. Most of the people who post here do so to get through another boring workday. So, this is a way of entertaining ourselves while we wait for 5 o'clock to roll around. And there's a definite hierarchy here. You and I rate very low on Totem's pole because we're new. So we especially have to deal with name-calling and flaming and rate-downs without going into a temper-tantrum about it.

I guess the moral is, the cool people are the ones who never try and the geeks and losers are the ones who try too hard. Just try to keep that in mind before you hit the "Post Message" button.

Basically I said that pretty much every thread Goose has posted in lately has turned into a flame-war between him and several other people, and he needs to stop taking everything so personally.

Shh, you're ruining one of my sources of personal amusement.

It's amazing how 'butt-hurt' some people get over having basic spelling and punctuation errors pointed out.

Every time I see one of those posts full of glaring errors, I point it out. If they get all defensive and retaliatory, I do my Dr. Evil laugh and point out the errors in their last post.

Rinse and repeat until they quit giving me ammo or catch on to the fact that I'm just fucking with them.

Yeah, because all of the time he's up in the recent visitors list and not posting he's for sure digging himself out from underneath some snow.

Poor guy indeed. I guess you taking time from base-jumping and shooting down iraqi savages in your nifty helicopter to post YOUR votes isn't that great of a task, after all, you're not digging yourself out from some snow. Pansy.

You must be attracted to seven year old boys, because that broad has the chest of one.

I was trying to figure out if she was wearing a top or not but then I realized that it didn't really matter since I probably have a better rack than she does.

I think our boobies get us the special "don't give me too much guff or I'll leave and take my girly goodness with me" pass.

Yes, we know you guys need much more girly goodness around here. Example? Don't well all still feel a little bereft without our sexy Jaeldar? Smiley: wink2

Without you girls, this place would be an absolute sausage party, instead of just a major one, like we have now.

In addition without you women, this place would be gay! It would have to be, just like jail.

Yeah, will this "retarded kid" was part of that "us" you speak of long before you ever started posting here. Who's the one that "we" let hang around because it makes "us" laugh now?

It may not have been Moe exactly, but it was somebody "like" Moe.

Does anyone think that Moe has gotten more angry, ever since he got some votes for best flamer? I think he can see the cup in sight, and is going for it in 2005.

You mean the one that showed Golum looking shocked all of a sudden like somebody had just shoved a 12 inch pickle up his ***? Yeah, it was a theme alright, it personified the ***-raping you were getting by yours truly and pretty much everybody else on the forum that cared to waste effort typing a response to you on the great "is Goose accepted" debate.
