Bah, the children are weak. They let the parents in the house? don't think so jack, you wanted the lawn, you use the lawn.
Lock the doors, tell everyone that calls what your parents are doing then hang up.

Its just silly, parents can't be parents anymore. Going on strike? What's *wrong* with you? whatever happened to hitting your children? your parents! ACT LIKE IT DAMN YOU!

Haha Im actually surprised the children didnt think about that aspect. If they have the house... why should the parents get the shower?

It is an interesting method, and I'd love to see an update of this. But kids these days are not using their brains.

Good story :)

I think they got it bacwards. What they should have done is moved the kids into the tent. Want to live like an animal? Fine animals live outside.

Sounds dumb to me. What message does that send to the kids? "If something is too hard just throw your arms in the air and give up and run away from it"

Seventeen is a bit to old to change habits in. Tell him he has less than 12 months to straighten up or pack his shit and get out. The twelve year old is different. Ground her. It's pretty simple really.

Wow what a dumb idea kids don't listen punish yourself. And they wonder why thier kids don't listen. When I was 17 haveing the house with no parents would have been a reward.

But Cat Barnard says the strike may already be paying dividends. She noted that her daughter washed her own clothes for the first time on Tuesday.

At least it's working.

Whether the couple's actions could be regarded as abandonment depends on how much guidance the parents are still providing and "if the children are suffering as a result," said Carrie Hoeppner, a spokeswoman with the Department of Children & Families in Orange County.

I think this is great. I should try this with my oldest son, heh. Except he lives with his father, so it might not be as effective.

I dont know. Cooking marshmellows out on the hibachi sounds like fun to me. And I remember being that age I hated cooking or laundry 9still do as a matter of fact). And as teens, you dont have money to order in or go for fast food.... so
#15REDACTED, Posted: Dec 09 2004 at 10:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What ever happened to the good old days when parents were mad at the kids they took them out to the yard and put them to work until their hands were bloodied and blistered and they were too exhausted to do anything but eat and go to bed?

man what ever happened to a good old backhand or something?

No one uses a belt, wooden spoon, slow torture(like kneeling for an hr on concrete), spanking, or actually grounding kids and taking away TV, games, music, computers anymore.

Abandonment? ********** They're there, at the house, and know what the kids are doing. They just happen to be outside.

Yeah the abandonment thing was kinda funny. Can I be cited for abandonment if I mow the lawn while my son takes his nap?

Until the parents stop throwing a tantrum and go back inside. Honestly, what motivation will they have to continue once mom and dad are back to doing laundry and washing dishes? Unless they plan on living outside forever this solves nothing.

That's where I'm at with it. My mom made me wash my own clothes since 5th grade. Cleaning the kitchen since 3rd grade. Now I rebel and wear dirty clothes, and eat from napkins with toothpicks.

I don't know what is worse, the parents using this method? or the kids giving a **** enough to do something?

I think it's awesome. You can't spank a 17-year-old, if you hit him hard enough to do any good, you leave a mark and get thrown in jail right away. As for the 12-year-old girl, girls that age are like princesses that think they can get away with anything. If you ground her, she'll sneak in a phone call, sneak out the window, and be back by suppertime acting like nothing happened.

I'm sure they'd already tried many conventional punishments before taking an extended camping trip. I'd have put the tent on the grass for a softer place to sleep, but that might get in the way of Junior mowing the lawn when he finally decided to shape up. Don't forget, mom isn't cooking either. Kids will get sick of PB&J sandwiches fast.

This reminds me of an argument I had with my mum in my teens Smiley: smile

She told me off for for various things and tried to make me feel guilty.

"You have not washed up for 3 days"
"I have only been home to sleep for 3 days, the washing up is yours, do it yourself"

"I wash all your clothes"
"I have asked you to stop washing my clothes, you ruin them washing them on the wrong settings"

"I will cut back your pocket money"
"The reason I have been out the last 3 days is I was at School and then working all night earning my own money"

"You never tell me what you are doing"
"Yes I do, see this 30 pounds? I am going out right now to spend that with my friends and have fun getting drunk, bye!"

Come to think of it, I would hate to have children like me Smiley: blush

Paging Dr. Leary, again...

"Hey! My parents used to beat the living shit out of me! Ok? And looking back on it, I'm glad they did! And I'm looking forward to beating the shit out of my kids, aren't you? For no reason whatsoever. *thbbt* "What'd you hit me for?" "Shut up and get out there and mow the lawn for Christs sake!" There's therapy for ya! Mowing the lawn and crying at the same time. "The Leary kid's in therapy again. Their lawn looks great, it's unbelieveable!"

perhaps his best stand-up ever, 'no cure for cancer'. Love his work, but this one always cracks me up no matter how many times I watch/hear it.
