In the spirit of giving, and the holiday that is steadily approaching, I have decided to scrap all of my old musical equipment and purchase brand spanking new...everything. I love nothing more than opening those FedEx Ground packages several days before Christmas morning, my friends and family watching, pissing themselves wondering how in the hell I am going to afford it all. Anyways, for anyone who cares, and is a fan of creating music, here is what I picked up:

Fender American Series HSS Strat
Marshall AVT Guitar Amp Half-Stack
Korg D32XD 32 Track Digital Recorder
Boss ME50 Guitar Multiple Effects Processor

...It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...Smiley: grin

If (as I assume) you want a rhythym guitar, then why not go for a telecaster or even a vintage mustang?

And if you play lead, why pick an axe that's so snatchy at the high end? As a minimum you'll need to lower the action to rock bottom, retune to D and probably shave down the top 8-10 frets.

At least you didn't go down the Gibson route Smiley: wink

Oh, nice amp though

Edditid four speling

Teles are good from what I hear, I have never gotten around to playing one though.

As for rhythm and lead, I play both, just depends which one of our interchangable members plays better. I really like the humbucking single coil combination, add a little overdrive and you can get really clear tone for those notes you want to leave ringing. Since I play in a blues band, it is crucial for me to have that attribute. I usually end up shaving the nut and raising the bridge, and tweaking the action higher, but since it is a Fender, I could probably just drop it off of a two story balcony and let it all fall into place Smiley: grin. I grabbed the American because the Standard that I used to have kept bowing in cold weather, so I wanted to go with a maple neck, but include a humbucker.

In the future, if I get daring, I might replace the single coils with Pao Ferro.

Besides a few exceptions (Mustang comes to mind), I'd have to agree.

I'm a Gibson man myself, too bad I can't afford one and have Korean made ESP. Oh well, it still sounds excellent, after a few modifications.

As for amps, I might put away some cash for a Marshall JCM-2000 TSL-100 Superlead.

Good way to get a better guitar cheaper is to buy vintage.

Aged wood has MUCH more resonance.

I play out of a PRS ce24. I also have a Gibson US1 I use for alternate tunings(stable bridge holds it better.) I used to play out of a JCM 900(Half stack) but about 4 years ago I traded it towards a Triple Rectifier and a custom cabinet. Their my babies.

I once had a seriously sexy 78 mustang. Had a '68 Cherry Strat (because everyone has to own a strat at some stage in their life) but in all honesty, while it looked well sexy it played like a bag of shite.

I've grown to love Fender Acoustics (Currently have a cheapo 6 string and a rather foxy 1983 F330 12 String). The nicest electric I owned was surprisingly a 1984 Yamaha SGB2000 (kind of a Gibbo SG shape but a sleek neck to die for).

Scenility has now led me to delight in a dinky little electric-acoustic Mandolin that works a treat with overdrive and chorus. Somehow it sounds like being stoned even when you have a clear head. (Think REM meets Hendrix and Steve Vai played by a ******)

I'm jealous, I won't lie. Right now I'm using an ESP Viper 301 with a set of EMG 81 in the bridge and an 85 in the neck. For being cheap it's got a nice sound, though I'd like to get ahold of a vintage Les Paul. (Who doesn't?)
I don't have anything fantastic in the way of amps, just a Crate half-stack. It gets the job done, but I'd like something with a bit more head-room.

Good point Nobby, Fender does has some decent sounding acoustics. I withdraw my statement above in their case.

While Fender's guitars aren't all that hot, their amplifiers are EXCELLENT.

I'd snag a Fender Twin Reverb if I could.

And it goes without saying that Tube > Transitor, right kids?

Alas the transition from my former married state lost me some of my dearest friends.

A 1963 Vox AC50 that I still mourn, and an Orange 50 watt top of indeterminate age (60s I think) all paid for my single-ness Smiley: oyvey

Now I don't gig so just use a Crate 50 combo. Times they are a changin'

You gave up an AC50. Damn right your mourning the loss. Once the wife and I take care of a couple more bills I plan on picking up an AC30 for playing around the house. The TripleRectifier(and its 150watts)is a bit much.

The AC50 was everything I could want from a combo. Unreliable, fuzzy, tatty front screen, expensive to maintain.

Ahh memories

But you have to admit. When it worked, the tone was perfect.

Smiley: laugh

If I was going to go vintage, I would have to go out and find an Esquire, like my dad used to have (that's how long my family has been around music), or maybe even a Jazzmaster. I probably would never get a mustang, only because it is considered a "student" version by some, and I have been playing for about 14 years.

The best amp I ever played on was a Rivera Sedona 100 at a blues bar that belonged to 7-string fingerpicking virtuoso, in my opinon. I actually talked to him quite a bit before his performance and after he cleared the stage, and let me play my version of "Powerhouse" on it. It wasn't until I heard the recording that my family made of me later that I was like, "Holy **** that sounds good." I thought about picking one up after that, but just couldn't dig up the $2,000.
