Your all-time favourite cultural fad?Follow

#1 Nov 25 2004 at 2:33 AM Rating: Good
Admit it, you secretly watch Pokemon on Saturday morning. Or you own a Beanie Baby or twelve. Or you still remember how to Macarena (and still have the CD single). You have a complete set of Friends action figures, including Poseable Action Marcel. We all have something that, although we hate to admit it, we bought into the fad right along with everyone else.

Mine? Well, it's not so much a fad as a cultural pheonomenon of the late 90s, but... I watch infomercials. Did you know that Susan Lucci has a fantastic product that exfoliates and nourishes the skin, making you look years younger? Did you know that top Beverly Hills personal trainers recommend Gunnar Peterson's "Core Secrets" as the most revolutionary exercise routine to come along in decades? Did you know? I did. :/

So yeah, anyway, what's your equivalent of my infomercials, the secret vice you'd never want to admit to your friends or family? Everyone has one, might as well own up. ;)

The series of cells under my parents garage. I still go by and visit the skeletons sometimes.

Edit: Is it still considered a cultural reference if you don't get it?

Ok I'll bite.
1. I like to build model cars, particularly those of the muscle car era. (It's a childhood fascination.)
2. Incidently, I am a reservoir of Corvette knowledge.
3. I collect and read comic books.

I like to watch cheesy ****. Nothing makes me laugh harder than those really bad plot lines and the horrendous acting. Plus, the boobies ain't bad either.

LOL I like watching infomercials too.......but I don't tune into them on purpose, I just leave them on when regular TV shuts off and for some reason I just keep watching @.@

*blushes*

But for real though, if I had a bigger wallet and more access, I'd be a complete Anime junkie. I can't get enough of the stuff. Inuyasha(awesome storyline), Azuamangah Daioh(FUNNY as can BE), She the Ultimate Weapon(awesome love story/female hero story), Wolf's Rain (where I got Keibah from), R.O.D. The TV(VERY creative), I liked the Animatrix (amazing artistry), Spirited Away is still the best movie ever made (and the english version had superb acting), Evangelion, Princess Mononoke, pretty much the ONLY stuff I don't like is when there isn't clarity on the TYPE of anime (sci-fi, comedy, romance, etc.), I don't like watching random *********

But yeah...ooo and I could go on, Ray Earth, Escaflowne, ok so some of them are typical but still...it even finds its way into the video games I play (Star Ocean and Xenogears being key examples).

I <3 Japan for their style of animation....seriously, they don't hold anything back, and it is surefire entertainment, even when I have to read the subtitles....

I'll stop now ^^;

DVDs are the best thing to happen to **** since the *****. Nothing is as funny as watching really cheesy **** with the shuttle on 32x speed. It's almost as entertaining as watching the Trinity Broadcasting Network. XD

As for anime... who needs money? That's what God invented Bittorrent for. :D

*sigh* Those were the times.

But, well.. Guess your children watch that now.

I had several pet rocks. Not.

I also collected the Spawn comic book series. true.

As well as the Tick -everything i could get my hands on- I'm surprised he doesn't get more play on this forum. The Tick was so clueless but heroic he redefined superhero...uh...ness?

Ninjas disguising themselves as a bush outside that one home, c'mon that **** was funny.

Man in bar - "And what are you supposed to be?"
The Tick - "I'm the tick."
MIB - "You sure don't look like a tick. Ticks have six arms, and you are blue."
The Tick - Chews on his straw. "So?"
MIB - "So ticks also drink blood."
The Tick - "Hey listen buddy I gotta straw right here, you wanna test me?"

^^ LMFAO

there was an episode of the tick where, some guy was actually dressed up as an ugly brown tick, but his name was the blueberry. he challenged the tick to a duel over who would actually be called tick. he felt the tick should be called blueberry, since his suit was blue and didn't look like a tick at all.

anyway, man was that show under appreciated. hopefully it arrives on dvd.

Astrojacks. 3 balls on a string with the middle one sliding free.
Kinda like a yoyo but not really. They were a fad (though an obscure one) and I still play with mine.

And as for the tick, that was a great show. Unless you're talking about the live action version. The only thing cool about that was lady liberty's (What they turned American Maid into) costume. and the chick who played her. Yummy...

I'd have to agree, the live-action version of the tick was just too weak. It didn't seem to have same humour and charm that the cartoon carried. I mean honestly, going at the speed of lint? Too funny!

I used to watch MST3K when it was on Comedy Central all the time when I was a child, then it got moved to Sci-Fi channel where for awhile it was running strong, but then got kinda weak. Damn good choice though, hats off to you Nadenu.

I love Comic books. I read X-men since before the whole Jean/Grey Phoenix thing, and I was the only girl in my high school to do so. I also enjoyed the Spanish music fad, which enabled me to feel like I danced better than anyone else at the gringo clubs.

I'll add a couple more.
I'm a huge Dungeons and Dragons nerd. I've been playing since 2nd edition.
I'm also a huge Magick the Gathering nerd, I blame friends for peer-pressuring me into playing.

ps I like **** too, you're not alone buddy. You don't have to make up silly excuses like you watch for the cheesy plot lines. It is ok to say... "My favorite part was when the girl got fucked up the ass."

I have watched Dumb and dumber, around 200 times. That wasn't much of a fad though...

CSI? Yeah, don't miss many of the episodes from all three series.

But my worst confession, is reality TV. I think I have watched about 90% of the reality shows around.

Speaking about Bittorrent I've spent the better part of this morning downloading and trying to figure it out.

Now I just have to learn how to actually find what I want to find.
