If I'm the Mossad I pop while he's in France.

Arafat really looks like hell these days though. I saw him on the news the other night and his face looked like it had been backed over by a car.

Poor dude. He just needs some hugs.

Yup. On the operating table.

But out of curiousity, if they don't, does Isreal think they can keep him out? Or will they have to let him back in?

I think they probably just kill hinm in France and he dies of "complications" or whatever and they issue a public statment of greif yadda yadda yadda.

They'd have to let him back in. They're better off with him in a box where they can take him if they need to than they are with him in exile with new status and an even bigger axe to grind.

Israel have now confirmed that they will allow him back in.

Can't see him making it though.

Has it occurred to anyone here that while some ****-head suicide bombers carried on killing civillians under Arafat's regime, there are a shed-load of former extremists who have been contained by Arafat?

Smart money says that he's replaced by an extremist who actively supports terrorism (result: more bombers) or a moderate who loses the confidence of the massed radical Palestinians (result: more bombers).

I'm not optimistic about this one.

If the violence escalates then hopefully it will come to a close. They are not fine the way it is. It's like a war that wont stop until someone can claim victory.

Like the discussions in here? Someone can claim victory, but saying it doesn't make it so.

I'd like to bring up the glass-parking-lot solution again. Nuke everything from Pakistan to the Siani Peninsula.

these people have 3,000 some od years worth of "mom, he hit me! Mom, he massacred my Camels" history to work out before any chance of a lasting peace unless one side or the other is completely exterminated. Not saying the latter is a desireable thing...

Arafat these days provides more of a stumbling block to palistine than anyhting else, what with the infighting and nepotism. if he were gone, someone else might step in with a more hardline "kill everything" approach.

Sometimes the devil you know is better than two in the bush, or something like that

Oh, they can all go to hell as far as Im concerned but as long as things stay the way they are we're likely to get dragged into it time and time again. I think a much more realistic solution would be for us to start using alternative energy and curb our dependency on foreign oil... Then turn it into a glass parking lot if necessary.

Well, I haven't looked my own personal scrapbook of Arafat pictures for a while.

I'm basing that statement on seeing him on the news just a few days ago. Smiley: wink

Seems too bad Affy isn't doing well. If he dies it'll just mean people in his country fighting over who gets power and probably end up with with the genocide party winning.
