Deny, Deny, Deny and then Spin it a little!!!

Ordnance Probably Wasn't Moved
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2004 – The chances that enemy forces moved 377 tons of heavy ordnance out of the Al Qaqaa arms facility after U.S. forces arrived in the area are nearly impossible, said Army Col. David Perkins, who commanded the American troops who took the area during major combat operations in Iraq in 2003

Now to steal this from Nobby:

The word on Qaqaa now is that if there was any munitions there there it was closer to 6 tons of explosives, not hundreds.
Oh Really?

In a signed letter from to the UN Security Council dated 25th October, Mohammed Abbas, General Director of the Planning and Following Up Directorate for the IAEA wrote:

IAEA wrote:
Site Equipment/ material Quantity (tons) Remarks
1 Al-qaqaa Company HMX 194.741 High explosive material.
Declaration on 15 July 2002.
2 Al-qaqaa Company RDX 141.233 High explosive material.
Declaration on 15 July 2002.
3 Al-qaqaa Company PETN 5.8 High explosive material.
Declaration on 15 July 2002.

He also states:
IAEA wrote:
We would like to inform you that the following materials which have been included in annex 3 (item 74) registered under IAEA custody were lost after 9 April 2003, through the theft and looting of the governmental installations due to lack of security.
Ignore the propaganda from the Kerry and Bush camps and the media. Here's the source.

Uncle Sam fu[/i]cked up big style. Will the CinC accept responsibility or not? Where does the buck stop?

Varus

How does that have ANYTHING to do with the liberal media?

It's the administration giving out the FALSE information.

They just lied.

Having been a REMF in the military I can tell you that "nearly impossible" is code for "probably".

Is anyone really surprised they've decided to run this story so close to the election when they've had the story over a year? This is purely political and you know it.

Boy, let's hope so. It'd be funny as hell if Bush loosed because of it. I'd laugh and laugh and laugh.

Hahahah.

I can't find the source, but I was listenting to NPR the other day and it was stated that the IAEA last verified seal more than a week befor 04/03. Any truth to this? (Seriously, I am curious)

No what would be funny if

Missed a verb, there, Strunk and White.

Funny as hell when people can't manage to construct a complete sentance to critizize someone's spelling.

Really, really, funny!

Hahahahah!

Actually it's the media reporting half truths and accusing the president of lying, once again. Is anyone really surprised they've decided to run this story so close to the election when they've had the story over a year? This is purely political and you know it.

So, when the media reports something that favors your side it's truth....and when they don't, it's lies of the "liberal media"?

Once again, Varus...I implore you to orally stab yourself with a male sex organ.

As opposed to a self proclaimed genius that can't spell words like sentence. lol

So true. Of course the good news for me is that I can use spell check whenever I feel like it. The bad news for you is that no one's perfected "Ignorant Slack Jawed Yokel Check" yet.

Maybe in time though! Technogoloy is full of wonder, you rememebr when you first saw indoor plumbing? It'll be better than that even!

Varus, I know you've exercised all your options in terms of "beating" Smash on this board. Here's a piece of friendly advice:

For the love of Bob, do yourself a favor and don't try and do it through spelling and grammar.

Just sayin' is all.

I have no idea.

I honestly don't see this is as either unique or a big deal. Everyone knew the swiss cheese security around weapons dumps was a joke. This isn't the first example of it, just a well timed, fairly large one.

I agree. I am more interested in whether or not the likelyhood of a massive theft (or government sponsored shipping to Syria) during a week to 10 days prior to having 100,000 troops crawling around the countryside is greater than the likelihood of a massive theft in the month following the initial conflict with 100,000 troops crawling around. Any thoughts?

I'd say it's more likely after the intial conflict, actually.

If I'm looking to steal a truckload of munitions, I'm more likely to do it when trucks driving around aren't routinely destroyed by fighters 5 miles away. The fact that security was lax during the initial invasion doesn't mean I know where it's vulnerable while air craft carriers are flying 100 sorties a day of planes I can't see that can kill me with the click of a button.

On the other hand, convince Sgt. Bob of the Alabama National Guard that my truck is full of dates after he's been doind roadblock duty for 9 months is slightly less challenging.
