This is going to a hearing possibly before the election.

MoveOn.org, Inc. and Common Cause hereby petition the Commission to initiate a complaint, pursuant to section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act (the “Act”), 15 U.S.C. §45, against Fox News Network, LLC, (“Fox News”), for deceptive practices in the advertising and marketing of cable television programming.

Specifically, Fox News has advertised and promoted the Fox News Channel (“FNC”) using the slogan and mark “Fair and Balanced”, but FNC’s news and commentary programming is not remotely
“fair” or “balanced.” To the contrary, that programming is deliberately and consistently distorted and twisted to promote the Republican Party of the U.S. and an extreme rightwing
viewpoint. The Commission should institute an enforcement proceeding against Fox News; order Fox News to cease and desist from using the slogan and mark “Fair and Balanced;” and take such other action as may be appropriate to remedy the injury to consumers from Fox News’ deceptive practices.

Wow, this sets a nice precedent. Can I now sue McDonald's? Cause, I'm like, not really lovin' it.

I'm sure this isn't really a legal precedent, it just sounds funny

No, but if their slogan was "Eat McDonalds, it's good for you!"

You probably could.

That's ridiculous...just because they are using the hard nosed tactics that have been used against the left for 25 years or more....they're scary.

They aren't sending people to die and raping the U.S., Lefein.

I can't really remember an instance of a Conservative activist group suing any of the news agencies to change their slogans on an intellectual principal... What same tactic?

okay, you win... MoveOn still scares me though. By the way, what were those conservative groups that were suing? I want to add some more to my "to be afraid of" list.

I don't really care for MoveOn or groups like it on either side. I wish we could have elections that weren't so focused on demonizing the other side.

Thats a pipe dream, I know, but I can wish can't I. To have an election where all that matters are the issues not the what happened 30 years ago.

Oh and for Fox News anyone with half a brain knows that they're not "Fair and Balanced". Because to them fair and balanced is being a right wing mouthpiece to counter the left wing mouthpieces on the other side.

Now, now, where's the fun in that?

JK: You're a great president.

GWB: No, you'd be better.

JK: Aw, it's sweet of you to say that. But really, we both know you're better.

GWB: Will you stop putting yourself down? You're a handsome man.

JK: Tickle fight?

GWB: Tee hee!

That just made me think of GWB & JK at a sleepover in pajamma's. This was not a good thing, cause I think my brain is trying to strangle my eyes no to prevent it from happening again. Smiley: yikes

Yeah a campaign without personal attacks wouldn't be near as funny as it is now. It's fun to see how everyone misrepresents facts which brings up one of the most enjoyable websites to read after a campaign appearance or debate www.factcheck.org.

If we went to a system were issues were at stake we might need a to have reality TV presidential races were each side elects a TV president to engage in smear tatics with the other sides.

I leave with a quote from one of the more enjoyable web comics I read SinFest

SinFest wrote:
New reality shows slated for the fall season:
The Candidate. George W. Bush and John Kerry spend a whole month together in a mansion filled with lobbyists. Who will get in bed with whom? Don't miss the sizzling behind the scenes deal-making. Each episode concludes with both candidates handing out long-stemmed roses to their favorite special interest groups.

It was a Republican 527 Group called Citizens United. They were complaining that it violated FEC rules against airing advertisments against a political candidate in the three (?) weeks prior to the conventions.

In other words, they said F 9/11 was a big advertisment against Bush so it violated FEC laws to promote the film on TV or radio.

Lol. Smash. Please tell me this is actually a joke. No one can actually be serious about that, can they?

Heh. I do love the total partisanship you display though. When the Rep groups sue for some reason, they're "desperate", but when a Dem group does, it's somehow all peachy and wonderful.

Isn't it? There is no way to interpret a documentary aimed specifically at critisizing a particular administration as anything else. I'm serious here. If you can honestly say with a straight face that F9/11 serves *any* purpose other then to attack the Bush administration, then go ahead believing that. But then I seriously have to question your judgement...

Look. In order to prove that Fox news' slogan is somehow false, and that they're news is slanted towards the Right, you'd have to actually look at the news of all other sources as well, which will undoubtable show just how biased "normal" news is towards the Left. Fox news only seems slanted if you automatically assume all other news isn't.

Since slant and bias is subjective anyway, it's a pretty much impossible standard to proove. It is nice to see that the supposed protectors of liberty are so readily willing to clamp down on speech though...

This above is NOT a fair and balanced use of logic...therefore if I compare it to the scribblings of monkeys...it seems logical.

But compared to the average 3rd grade essay....not so much.

Except that advertising isn't afforded the same free speech protection as other speech.

It is a retarded lawsuit though.
