Hey.. What's Single Handball?

Where I come from the only way to play Handball is with two teams fighting each other.. literally.

And I don't get Handball either. Why put glue on your hands so that the ball sticks when you need to throw it at the enemy goal?

Which brings me on to Football (Soccer). Why don't they pick up the ball and throw it? When you look at a Handball game the scores are like 20/20 or something while the Soccer score is 1/1. Obviously it's more effective to pick it up and throw it.

And Golf! Why don't they pick up the little ball, drive over to the hole and put it down there? And why do they pick it up the second it goes in the hole? Why were they aiming at the hole if it wasn't supposed to go down there?

I asked my mother, and she said "no problem".
