Quote:
Iraqi militants who kidnapped an Australian reporter in Baghdad and threatened to kill him Googled his name on the Internet to investigate his work before deciding to release him unharmed, the journalist's executive producer said Tuesday.

Why does Google hate everyone except Australians?

I'm more amused that "Google" has become an acceptable verb for professional journalists.

I wonder if, by some strange twist of fate, one of us were captured, we could convince them that we are all "journalists" on this site.

Chop, chop!!

I thought the "English teacher" would have some comment on the "Googled" thing, but apparently she forgot her pretend job for the moment Smiley: laugh

It's probably already in the dictionary.

Like the word, "D'oh!"

Yay!

What does d'oh stand for anyway?

I usually write it "doh" instead... pronouncing it "dough" like Homer does.. but pronouncing d'oh would be like.. de-oh or do-oh.

In the Simpsons scripts, it only appears as <Annoyed Grunt>, and "D'oh" was Dan Castellaneta's interpretation of that.

He borrowed it from an old TV character that would start to say "Damn," but stop himself after the D. (At the time, "Damn" was a bad word).

Or you can consult Wikipedia, as usual.

I'm more disturbed by what you can find out by Googling someone. I just tried it. Scary!

I know what you mean Flea. I googled my name a while back and found out that for some oddball reason my name is on some space thing travelling out to Pluto or someplace. I also found my husband's name, my brother, and my parents. So when the aliens come to take us, they'll take everyone but me cause it's my maiden name! Smiley: cry

I've had an internet presence since the early-mid 90's and been on this planet considerably longer, yet about all that's on Google for me is some old ASCII art, a contribution to an old "Red Green Show" FAQ and a link to some article I wrote about how "Barney & Friends" lacks an antagonist which is unusual for a children's show. I guess if you searched the USEnet archives you could read my thoughts on Magic: the Gathering as well.

Honestly, I was kind of disappointed there's so little about me out there. And none of it is likely to save me from Islamic beheading.

My name is alittle too common for google to show anything relating to me.. damn other people doing more with my name than I am.

On the other hand, it is kinda cool to see "Daniel Fitzgerald Fan Area".

Jophiel: But, but...I have 12,000 posts! Look! I can prove it!
(Googles furiously)

Iraqi Militant: How do I get Premium?

I googled my name and got confirmation of a glaringly obvious fact:

I haven't done anything worthy of internet fame. I am nobody and that just helped prove it. But apparently there's a charter boat captain in FL and a DOT director in a western state and a coupla anti-Bush radicals who share the anme with me. At least they're semi-interesting.
