So he's blaming a "manufacturing defect". This guy will blame anyone to keep from taking responsibility.

What I have to wonder is, if he can't even ensure something as simple and routine as flu shots are stockpiled...what happens if we actually have a biochemical attack? How can anyone have faith in this man? He consistantly SCREWS UP and the american people are still like "weellllll, maybe it's not really his fault.."

makes me want to take a baseball bat and start tapping people in the head. welcome to america..land of the free, but home of the naive.

Is it really something that can be controlled by the president?

I find it interesting how he pledges there will not be a draft. How can he make that promise? In the event of a major attack that disables a large portion of our soldiers what exactly will his plan be?

Vice President **** Cheney has blamed the shortage on the economics of producing vaccines, including the threat of lawsuits and the limited profits for manufacturers.

It blows my mind how he never seems to stay in step with Bush, it's almost as if the guy had a conscience. His reason also makes more sense, whether it's true or not.

It's the drug companies. They can't make any money mass-producing flu vaccines, so we had to outsource half of our supplies to British pharms. Another shining example of Western capitalism and the American pursuit of another buck.

No, I'm not advocating socialism, calm down Drac. I just wish that companies could see beyond profits and try to do their jobs competently first.

Not entirely, but as he outsourced it, there's a serious question about leaving control of something like that to others.

Especially when it's outsourced to Liverpool Smiley: oyvey. Home of 'Scousers'* who'll tell you a joke, write a Beatles song and steal your wallet and your alloy wheels while you ask 'em for directions.

* UK name for people from Liverpool (aka Liverpudlians )

Q: What do you call a Scouser in a Suit?
A: The accused

Q: What do you call a Scouser in a suburban House?
A: A Burglar

Q: What do you call two scousers in a Pub?
A: A fight

directly? no. the government is not in place to dictate every action by everyone, individual or corporate. the policies it sets forth that control things like healthcare indirectly dictate how the supporting healthcare providers and drug manufacturers run their businesses, though.

at the very least, we should have known about the shortage long before the last minute. these are things the president (and his long list of staff) are paid the big bucks to keep track of.

I can't take credit for my avatard-- it's strictly the handiwork of Nobby, computer genius extraordinaire. I asked him what he could gin up and he came up with that. Good work, isn't it? You've been resisting an ever increasing impulse to vote Dubya the closer we get to Election Day, aren't you?

Heheheh-ow!eheheh.

Me? Dracoid? No, not I. I have no puppets, as my post count will attest, since I wouldn't have time to post under a different name. Besides, Drac would be mightily offended at being called a black man, as all good Communists are whiter than white.

I was referring to the hammer-and-sickle being flashed over Kerry's face....but if you want to make it a race thing, go ahead. Minorities can't be racist after all, right? Smiley: tongue

I'm not sure how much Bush has to do with flu vaccines. I don't want him elected but that doesn't mean he's responsible for everything in the nation that doesn't go swimmingly.

The plant was shut down by British authorities. Bush made it sound in the debates as if "we" caught contaminated vaccine which is patently false. At the same time, there wasn't much Bush could have done to magically stop the vaccine from being contaminated.

The producers of the vaccine are American and based in California. So this isn't just an issue that scary legal monsters drove the business out of America, they're just producing in the UK. When it comes time to sue, you don't sue the factory, you sue the owners.

According to Bush, we would have had ample amounts of the vaccine if not for the plant shutdown. So to imply that legal issues kept other companies from producing the vaccine would fly in the face of supply and demand. If three companies are enough to get vaccine to everyone who wants it at a reasonable price, there's simply no room for a fourth company to take the time and expense of making a warehouse full of the stuff, legal issues or no.

This is true. Drug companies that pay GWB to keep quiet about it.

My GF's company gave him that Senior drug card program idea in exchange for political favors.

Seriously.
