despite the obvious troll, im bored enough to respond.

it cant be both because for it to be a depressant it just simply cant speed up the heart rate, even a little. for it to be a depressant it cant leave the heart rate unchanged. it has to lower the speed of it, along with pretty most all other bodily functions.

it would be like gbaji saying "apples are actually just the same as oranges because both, when made into juice, hydrate you" while at the same time im saying "an apple cant be anything like an orange because it isnt a citrus fruit, and to be an orange it must have citrus"

AH. Look. Maybe you are using a different definition of "depressant" then I am.

Alchohol is a depressant, yet you can certainly experience an increased heart rate while using it. That has *nothing* to do with the overall function of a depressant, which is to slow down many body functions. An elevated heart rate does *not* mean you aren't on a depressant. It just means you are excited (which can be a common side effect of the euphoric/hallocenogenic component of a marijuana high).

What it does do is impair neural activity and internal systems such as liver and kidney function. That's why it's a depressant. Despite the name, depressants aren't drugs that make you depressed. They are drugs that "depress" bodily functions.

This is one of the reasons it's potentially extremely dangerous to mix marijuana and alchohol, especially in large amounts. While you can't really OD on marijuana alone, mixing it with *another* depressant like alchohol (which is also a mild poison), can result in the body being unable to process the alchohol out of the system resulting in death, where the alchohol use alone might not have caused that failure.

If you want, I can pull up hundreds of clinical studies that support this. You've got what? Some biased pro-marijuana sites that are intentionally trying to downplay the dangers?

Whatever AH. Believe what you want. I've got to wonder why you so desperately want to argue this point? It really does sound like you are entering into drug use uninformed and deliberately denying any facts about the drugs you choose to use that don't fit what you want to believe. Look. I'm all for drug use, but don't lie to yourself about them. They are potentially dangerous if you're stupid about their use. And it's usually kids like you who refuse to believe that they are dangerous and refuse to be smart about their suse that end up ******** themselves up. I'm not arguing this to be "the man". I'm really just trying to get you to not be really dumb about this. I totally agree that most of the dangers of drug use are exagerrated, but that's no excuse to go 180 degrees the other way and naively assume that they are completely safe. They aren't. You are putting a foreign substance into your body. Don't ever forget that.

well, after doing a bit more thorough research it seems that it is technically an entactogen, but the United States Government classifies it as a hallucinogen as well as many other sources.

Erowid (basically the drug users bible for mostly unbiased, factual information) classifies it as a hallucinogen.

I suppose we can conclusively say that like MDMA (Ecstacy) it is a class of its own. You can put it in all sorts of groups, but it doesnt quite fit into any of the traditional ones.

Stimulant? sure, it can fit in there. increases heart rate doesnt it?(and contrary to what gbaji says, that is a chemical reaction that takes place due to the marijuana, not increased movement or respond to outside stimuli)

Hallucinogen? with a small tolerance and some high end sativa you *will* think you are tripping.

Depressant? while i'd hesitate to call it that, someone smoking some a large amount of indica stoned out of their mind definitly feels like it is a depressant.

maybe all the weed i smoke is very good (actually, it is, but i dont want to come off as bragging), but it all has a very hallucinogenic quality on me.
