They receive plenty of training on when to use lethal force. This is one of the things are drilled into every cop. When you have only seconds to make a decision on firing your weapon you process a lot of information in a short amount of time. The reality is most of them never have to draw their weapons their entire careers and make $80 an hour for standing around at road construction sites.

He wasn't pointing the gun at the cops - He was shooting it in the air to try and get people to stop fighting, and was doing that when cops showed up - They shot him without him probably even realizing they were there.
We are trained to shoot at center mass.
It's the easiest thing to hit. And for you fuckers that have never picked up a gun: When you aim you focus on your front sight. That means that everything else is a little blurry. So you have to shoot at center mass.
If some dumbass tried to shoot someone in the leg, he'd miss, and may end up killing an innocent bystander.
IF some jack *** points a gun at me I'm not going to take the time to issue a warning.
