From a scientific standpoint, I'm sad to see him go. He was a good guinea pig for all those fancy paralysis treatments they're coming up with. Last I heard, he was able to wiggle his fingers.

Oh yeah, and they really should have kept this guy away from his bed.

Yeah, and you can totally play the "In bed game" with it.

"Superman star Christopher Reeve dies at 52..... In bed!!"

Maybe this will serve to light a firecracker in the *** of people who are against stem cell research. Reeves (and others, but he was in the public eye) held on as long as he possibly could in hopes that science would catch up to him.
Or maybe they'll just say God's will was done, heartless bastards.

Yeah some rich actor dying is big news, how sad. Reeves was nothing more than a premodona who became disabled getting thrown off his very expensive horse. True no one wants to see anyone get hurt but why should I care about some wacked out actor who's disabled?

it is a shame that Mr. Reeves died.but i dont think that not enough stem cell research had anything to do with it. he went into cardiac arrest and then a coma.but still it is really sad that he died.

That sounds like a question for your mom. I suggest you go ask her.

He went into cardiac arrest as a result of an infection which was a result of his paralysis.

Reeve went into cardiac arrest Saturday at his home in Westchester County, New York, after developing a serious systemic infection during treatment for a pressure wound. He slipped into a coma and died Sunday afternoon at a hospital near his home.

I can't find the quote now but it said that the wound that was being treated is common among people with paralysis.

Here ya go, from the Christopher Reeves Foundation website:

Mr. Reeve passed away yesterday of heart failure. He was 52 years old. Mr. Reeve fell into a coma after going into cardiac arrest while at home. Reeve was being treated for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.

Mr. Reeve’s death was not a direct result of his spinal cord injury, but an example of how secondary complications can have fatal consequences for people living with paralysis.

“Christopher was a hero to many people, yet he always said it was the ordinary people living with disability who were truly extraordinary” said Lewis. “His memory will serve as inspiration for the work of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and we will continue in his honor to be steadfast in our goal of finding treatments and cures for paralysis.”

I find this thread amusing to say the least.

If last Friday I started a thread asking you all what you thought of the man you would have slammed him to no end. (Don't lie, I know you people) But since he died your all touchy feely saying what and admirable man he was.

My ass he was.

He was a rich cripple, nothing more.

Sure it’s sad that it happened but truth be told if he wasn’t who he was he would have never been alive this long.

Am I glad he died?

No

Just sayin' is all

Yeah, because this board has nothing but reverance for the dead Smiley: rolleyes

To be honest, I have little opinion about the man from any hero standpoint. However, he provided a focus for medical research and lobbying for funding. One could argue that his motives were "selfish" as he obviously would have liked a cure for himself. But I see it as more of a shame that it takes a crippled rich celebrity before people actually open their eyes about this stuff and that if he wasn't rich, "he'd have never been alive this long" after suffering the injury.

You really have nothing productive to type whenever your granted a keyboard, huh?

If it makes you feel better, the mourning that Reeve is getting in this small thread is enourmous compared to what you'd probably get the lucky day you die.

Unless we all through a party.
