I think once the dust settles, the polls will be close. Honestly, they both did a great job.

i would definately say Edwards won this debate because he knew what to say and how to say it, but for all you Cheney fans, look at it this way, he made it through without a heart attack :)

to the sephiroth jackass: I think someone needs to put down others to make himself feel good, and ill give you a hint, that person has a very unoriginal name and speaks less coherently than a baked potato, oh yes, its you.

Smash: i agree with most, if not all of the things you said.

Solved the inconsistencies:

Both candidates got some encouragement from post-debate polls. Cheney fared best in an ABC News poll of a Republican-leaning group of registered voters who watched the debatewith 43 percent giving Cheney the edge, while 35 percent said Edwards won.

Ok, well after tonight's debate, can anyone really believe GWB is the man running our country? Really. George Bush is Cheney's sock puppet.

I didn't watch most of the debate because it was degrading into a repeat of Thursday night's. From what I saw (about the first 30 minutes), it looked like a real back-and-forth debate.

As mentioned previously, Edwards got in what was probably the most memorable moment - which is important in the era of the sound bite - when he ripped into Cheney as follows:

"He voted against Head Start. He voted against banning plastic weapons that can pass through medical detectors. He voted against 'Meals on Wheels' for Seniors. He voted against a holiday for Martin Luther King. He voted against a resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela."

The only negative spin I can derive is that more than a few of Bush's supporters may have voted the same way in Cheney's position.

Otherwise, I'm not too surprised that Edwards is leading in most polls because he simply comes off on camera: Edwards' charm and smile vs. Cheney's rigidity and snarl. Who's hand would you shake?

As I said, I personally gave a slight edge to Cheney but, then again, I was listening on the radio so smiles and snarls didn't sway me.

Now, despite the poll numbers at ABC differing from other sites, look at this gem:
Quote:

Vote Preference
Before the debate After the debate
Bush/Cheney 51% 50
Kerry/Edwards 48 49
Nader/Camejo <.5 0

In what really counts, Kerry and Edwards gained, and Bush lost. Kerry may still be behind, but for a "lost" debate, getting another 1% in voter polls is pretty good.

Edit: 7% more Pubbies watched ABC for the debate as well

So let's see. In the one poll where more Republicans were polled, Cheney won by 8 points.

In every other random poll Edwards won by like 30.

BAM, RIGHT AGAIN BABY! IT MUST DRIVE YOU GUYS NUTS, HUH?

Among registered voters who watched the debate, 43 percent said Cheney won, 35 percent called Edwards the winner and 19 percent called it a tie. One factor is that more Republicans tuned in — 38 percent of viewers were Republicans, 31 percent Democrats, the rest independents

So assuming Cheney got all the Republican votes, and Edwards got all the Democrat votes, Cheny got on epercent more of the independent votes in the one poll where he wasn't destroyed.

Neat.

I knew he lost, but it wasn't clear how badly untill you pointed it out for me.

Thanks, Varus!

I really liked how Bush lost 1% of his voters in the poll too, pretty fun. Since when did winning mean that you lost support?

A one percent move is pretty meaningless. It's just a blip. It's not like he lost 11 points. I mean that would show a massive failure of disaterous proportions.

Like last week.

Ahahaha.

Man, I can't wait for the election.

I realize 1% is nothing to dance in street about, but if these same people voted that Edwards lost, how did he end up getting Kerry another 1%, and Bush to lose it? I don't get it O.o

Edwards won this debate hands down. Cheney was left reeling.

I was particularly surprised how aggressive Edwards became, almost soley addressing the Vice President on many issues, while Cheney could only sit there and take it like a man.

Chris Matthews from pmscnbc gave the edge to Cheney.

Smashed how does it feel to be in full time spin mode?

From MSNBC who's poll had Edwards winning by 20 points?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/

This MSNBC, right, *****?

Spinning...let's see, that's like saying you won a debate when you loose 11 points in the polls three days later, right?

Man, it's good to have you back. There's only so much making fun of random idiots we can do here. It's nice to have the primary idiot back. I imagine Totem's thrilled to have the heat off him for a while.

Ok I'm not a teacher anymore so go learn what margin of error means and ask yourself that question. moron

Here's an example: Bush was so stunningly crushed by Kerry in their first debate that he lost four times the margin of error in the poll.

See, easy.

Good to see you've stopped screaming and have gone back to just ranting. If you'll recall the mass media claimed Reagan lost his debates as well, and we all know how that campaign turned out.

No, moron. Just the first one. If Bush comes back and wins the other two debates, he'll a chance.

Bush is no Regan, however.

The hypocrisy of Edwards is astounding, for example he claims Cheney isn't doing enough on terror when he's missed most of the senate hearings concerning terror. Cheney nailed Edwards *** to the wall which is why you're in such a great mood this morning =)

You can't possibly be serious. The whole Democratic Party is celebrating. Trust me, if Edwards lost, I wouldn't be pretending he won. That's the job of ******* like you, to live in stange fantasy worlds.

I'd probably be saying the debate was meaningless to voters if Edwards lost. I'd recommend you switch to that before you dig yourself deeper into this "Cheney won the debate!" fantasy and get laughed off the board.
