Something that didnt make the news.Follow

Well, I guess I'm in the presence of the moral equivelance crowd. What's sad about this whole goddamned thing is that it will end up becoming a major conflict. It will be far bigger than anything we can see now. There are so many international tensions at work that ten years from now we'll be able to see how much of a turning point 9-11 really was. It was a wake up call just liek Pearl Harbor. America will always be the world's favorite political battleground. We're the only country it seems that throughout our history the consensus will be "We don't give a crap about you or your problems until you make them ours"

Why are they fighting? What leads them to violence Dracoid? You make terrorism almost sound like a necessity or something.

For freedom from what they view as the opressive morraly bankrupt reach of US culture.

That's why they threw the tea in the harbor and didn't wear uniforms or march in line.

Oh wait, that terrorism was fine. When brown skinned people do it's "eeeevil". I had forgotten.

Terrorism is absolutely the only option open to militarily inferior force in any enagement. It's what the US did in 1776, it's what the stormers of the Bastille did in 1789, and on and on and on.

Terrorism is a choice of last resort taken on people desperate to fight against what they deeply believe is wrong. If they had the weapons and the technology we'd be doing PRESICELY what they have done.

The ludicrousness of making a moral judgement that flying a plane into a building of people is evil and dropping cluster bombs on people is noble and just is beyond description.

War hasn't been fought in an idealized romantic structured way since about 1066. Every force uses every technique available. The more desperate the odds against them the more desperate the technique.

The US holds the great distinction of being the only force to arbitrarily use a weapon of mass destruction against civillian targets, TWICE, without any particular reason than it wanted to demonstrate it's power to the rest of the world for political purposes.

No historians who've studied the subject take seriously the assumed supposition of the propagandist that dropping two nuclear devices on civilians somehow saved lives.

Wake the fuck up and stop assuming that when people belive as you do their actions are immune from judgement and when they don't belive as you do they are inherantly unjust.

Most people realize that by the age of about 9. Then, of course, there are Republicans.

Will end up?

It's been a major conflict for 100 years. The fact that America was impacted recently doesn't mean it suddenly came into existance recently. Nor does our LUDICOURSLY OUT OF PROPORTION OVERREACTION to being attacked suddenly mean that everything's changed.

Get this through your head now so you don't feel a fool in ten years. 9-11 changed ABOSLUTELY NOTHING. The risks we faced on September 10 of that year were no greater than the risks we faced on September 12 of that year. The mindless sheep of this country, however, were taken out of their normal banal ignorant existance for a day and shown thier own mortality. The generation of easily controlled and molded automotons were told again and again how unsafe the world had sudeenly become as opposed to the reality that it was never safe.

It will be far bigger than anything we can see now. There are so many international tensions at work that ten years from now we'll be able to see how much of a turning point 9-11 really was.

That's the most assinine, Amricentric, thing I've ever seen. The truely frightening part is that I think you're not merely misguided enough to believe that it's true, but lazy enough to never bother exploring the reality of the situation. It's become an article of faith for you I imagine. Why did everything change after 9-11? Because Baby W told you so.

It was a wake up call just liek Pearl Harbor. America will always be the world's favorite political battleground. We're the only country it seems that throughout our history the consensus will be "We don't give a crap about you or your problems until you make them ours"

Firstly, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Africa are the world's favorite political battlegrounds. Secondly, no one gives a crap about anything until it happens to them. The US has no monopoly on selfishness. What we do have is the power to horribly impact the rest of the world with our selfishness in a way that Ziare, say, can't.
