Seriously though, it's both. It's possible to be descended from the Judaeic tribes from which the Jewish faith spawned. However you could be a convert descended from those tribes, and be a Jewish Catholic.
Also, I believe (not 100% since I'm not Jewish) you can convert to Judaeism if you so chose. However I THINK you'd have to go through a bar/bat mitzvah to be confirmed.
