Actually the objection to both situations is exactly the same.

I, and my group of peers have made a moral determination that it's wrong therefor they shouldn't be allowed to do it.

As others have pointed out, not long ago you and your wife were "they".

There is a big difference between arguing discrimination when someone can not change the physical characteristic that they are born with, than discriminating against someone who has a chosen "lifestyle" that is outside normal society.

So you support making it illegal for heterosexual couples with noserings to get married? Making it illegal for Wiccans to marry? Making it illegal for circus geeks to wed?

You've yet to come up with any good reason beyond SLIPPERY SLOPES why they shouldn't. Just admit that you feel your fundamentalist moral agenda means more to you than personal freedoms and liberties and be done with it.

What is outside normal society? Homosexuality may have been frowned upon when the Bible was being written, but times have changed, baby. Or would you also prefer that those born with certain physical characteristics be used as slaves? Here's a little history lesson: slavery has been abolished for a few years now. They're also letting women vote. I'm just saying that many things that have been deemed acceptable (or not acceptable) have changed over the years.

Homosexuality has not been proven to be genetic, until there is conclusive evidence that being gay is caused by a specific gene in a persons DNA, it is a choice.

Pickled - I'm as open minded as they come. Even understanding the world is not black and white but varying shades of grey, does not mean that my standing by a specific range of grey is wrong.

What exactly is a Christian to you? What characteristics do you envision of a person when someone says they are Christian? And define openminded to me. Because, you are confusing me with you being a liberal and claiming to be openminded yet accusing me of being close minded.

NEWS FLASH: Western Civilization has abolished slavery. There are still country's on this planet that practice slavery.

NEWS FLASH: Western Civilization allows women to vote however there are still society's in this world that treat women like property.

Lots of things have changed over the years and the two you pointed out are very good changes. However, the point of the matter is that these two groups of people where discriminated against based on there physical characteristics that make them different. Homosexuals have no physical characteristics that make them different. Homosexuality is not a race nor is it a gender, it is a lifestyle. These people have the right to marry already, so nothing has been denied them. They're in a raucus because their sexual orientation is not accepted in most common social settings.
