Kerry didn't flip flop...Follow

#1 Sep 21 2004 at 9:31 AM Rating: Good
He ignored the issue all together.

I'm watching Letterman last night, very briefly, and I see Dave ask one of his softball questions, "If you were elected president in 2000, would you have gone to war in Iraq?" Then he proceeded to clarify, if Kerry had had the information Bush did at the time, would Kerry have gone to war.

Kerry took the next two minutes explaining to America how voting to authorize the president to go to war doesn't mean he wanted to go to war. Then he explained what he would do in Iraq if elected this time. Then he explained why he didn't vote for the money to support the troops. Then he explained again what he would do if elected, again.

Never did he answer the question, or come remotely close to it.

Nice work, senator.

Didn't watch the show but I'm glad Kerry mentioned this. Getting old to listen to the Pubbies say "Kerry voted against body armor!!!" and leave out the part where Bush said he'd veto a bill that would have bought body armor (among other things) by rolling back some of Bush's precious tax cuts to the wealthy instead of having no plan to pay for it.

Bush hates our troops Smiley: frown

There's a diffrence between him not answering the question and you not understanding the answer.

Sadly, you apparently didn't come remotely close to understanding his answer. No worries, though, your vote STILL counts just as much as the other retarded people!

Put YOUR money where YOUR mouth is please.

Is it just my perception or is there an ever-increasing odium of doom around Kerry?

It just seems that way in my little hickass state, anyway.

I think the campaign is running low on gas, so to speak.

Hopefully the debates will help spark it back up in time for voting day. There's still been little mention of current events and what everyone's real plan is and, with the crap from 30 years ago on both sides dying down, that leaves little to talk about. Bush has the advantage there in that people can assume his "plan" is to keep doing whatever it is he's been doing. The only way you'd really be fired up about Kerry is if you just assume whatever Bush is doing sucks so much that anyone else could do it better.

I know you can look up Kerry's positions on his website or whatnot, but that doesn't make for good water cooler conversation.

I make no secret of the fact that I'm voting for Kerry (not that my vote matters much in Illinois) but I'm not the eternal optimist that Smash is.

While I am no impartial observer, I try to watch and see signs of momentum or stagnation, for instance. What I am detecting is a sense of desperation in the Kerry camp imparted by the heightened attacks against Bush and what appears to be franticness in the closing weeks of the campaign.

I don't see any of the serene calm that accompanies the candidate who is confident he is going to win. But that's just me.

I see a campaign that waited untill it mattered to go negative, as opposed to the GOP who's tactics have smacked of rank desperation for months now.

IF you're looking for desperation start with the avalanche of lies that came out of the GOP as soon as Kerry won the nomination.

I think both sides know this election will likely be won by pennies, not pounds. How many times now have we heard someone from the Bush camp say that the terrorists want Kerry to win and that voting for Kerry means we'll all die or whatever?

Spend my $30,000 tax refund on Vodka, I guess. Wait four more years and watch the economy collapse and a few thousand more US troops die to avenge a family feud.

That sort of thing.

Well, as Donna Brazaile said, you have to take the Bush campaign machine seriously-- something she freely admits her and Gore didn't do back in 2000. Now it would appear that Kerry repeated the same mistake. There's no excuse for that, especially when you have a road map of how Dubya will run his re-election campaign.

What is it you guys put in each others beef jerkey, exactly?

The Kerry campaign has taken the Bush machine very seriously. There's absolutely nothing to indicate otherwise.

Bush is BARELY squeaking out a lead in some polls, and loosing in others. This is an incumbent President who had a 70 percent approval rating when Kerry started campaigning.

Golly, if only Kerry was mopre effective.

The diffrence beeing I cheer for the Red Sox becuase I want them to win. I think Kerry's most likely to win, and I happen to want him to win.

I didn't think Gore was likely to win in '00.

While I agree with that, I don't think that Moe missunderstood Kerry's response. From how he describes it, Kerry took a straightforward question and danced around it for 5 minutes, touching subjects only related to it. I could go up there and do that to, but I'm still not answering the question.
