You sir.....might be retarded. Just because someone can play fast and loud does not make them good. Would you put "joey" against say Neil Pert or Danny Carrey? I think not.

I am a drummer and have been for many years... i said he was "one" of the best, not "the" best. the thread was about slipknot, yes... there style is fast and heavy, some like it, some don't... the fact is he is great at it!! you wana show me a vid of you doing it better then you can talk.

... see the bottom of my first reply...

I really liked Slipknot's first album, back in the day when I was into the heavy metal scene. After that though, their music just went down hill. Their recent album especially stunk.

And if you want to talk about good drummers while staying in the metal genre, how about Brad Wilk or Raymond Herrerra?

Iowa was good, went to see them live in birmingham (england not alabama) was good, lots of jumping off amps and shrowing seat covers around, they wern't exatly great live though, it was note for note word for word the albumn, no change at all, just louder

Probably the 2 best drummers in the metal scene imo (and I'm speaking from a personal bias) has to be Martin Lopez and Danny Carrey of Tool. Just listen to Tool's live version of ****************** and you'll understand why he's so unbelievably good.

Iowa was not good. I wouldn't say it sucked, but it pales in comparison with their self-titles album.

I also saw them live at Ozzfest 2001. It wasn't much of a show, and the crowd got a little rowdy, but when Manson and Black Sabbath are coming on after you, most people just want you to get the hell off the stage.

Yeah Black Sabbath reunited for this years Ozzfest as well, I'd share the details with you as it was quite possibly the best Ozzfest ever, but that is a story better left for another time. :)

Another great drummer outside the heavy metal scene is Carter from DMB. That guy has more skill than any other drummer in any genre of music. Period.

Saw them live just before there first album came out and i was pleasantly suprised. They put on an amazing show.

Is the music for everyone? Nope. Is it the greatest metal band of all time, definitely not. But they do put on a good show and there first two CD's are good metal. To each there own.

Slipknot does suck imo. Just imo and yours and who ever else agreed. Anyways, they suck because theyre too heavy and they sound like theyre just angry and screaming at someone. Plus they were all black and clown masks. Which not only scares me a little, but makes me angry because some of the coolest kids I've known dress like them and act stupid like them too. Also, Die Fred Durst! DIE! You 2 korn!

Nah, I have to say that if you listen to "rock" radio for about an hour you will feel your brain fall out of your ears. Most of the crap labeled "rock" nowadays is some whiny semi-emo semi-punk crap or some whiny depressed nasal Edie Vedder wannabe who couldn't even be worthy of licking his shoes guy singing about how sad he is about losing a girlfriend. Music nowadays is so whooped we need bands like Slipknot to drive a mack truck through the monotony. I don't think they're the best thing ever, but when I hear a slipknot song or a metal song it's like a breath of fresh air in this over-estrogenized suck-fest we call American radio.

Slip knot is monotone loserism. But, I agree. Radio sucks. My advice, by an MP3 Player. I like alot of obscure music, and alot of music that you are familiar with. I love the doors(all their songs pretty much), the beatles, the stones, Modest Mouse(Old over new), The Ramones(they sound completly the same!!!), the smiths, The New Amsterdams(underground emo), and led zeppeling. Anything else that comes in between that I say I like, theyre an exception. The rest of it can go to hell. Especially slipknot for creating a generation of teenagers dressed in black and saying their outsiders. Slipknot is its own generation, you want a fresh breath of air? Go listen to some bob dylan. He changes all the time. Btw, I left him out.

I guess I like stepping outside of the mellow. Although all the artists you named were not only talented, but also original and creative. That's something that just seems to be lacking nowadays. Slipknot kind of becomes an antithesis to the "popular" radio or mainstream music. Yeah it's "outsiderism" but then again, who among us was a Tommy Hill wearing kegger throwin MTV watchin "normal" person?
Yeah the whole goth thing was like "oh I can be different just like everybody else" and there is definitely uniformity among the non-uniformed... Not much changes over time. But an outright primal thrashfest like Slipknot is a rather amusing diversion from the generation-overmedicated crap that has overwhelmingly sucked the airwaves vapid of all energy and style.

...and people wonder why rap has become so popular? It may not be unique, but at least it can be lively and even fun.

Yeah, they sucked back when they were King Diamond too.

Blech!

/agree I also hate their music. Just me though. If you like them not to be different, and dont fall underneath the stereo type of any normal slipknot fan. You are worthy of life.

Amen to that Lefein! Music today does seem to be truly lacking today (or atleast what particularly suits my taste), it's the same tired crap over and over again with no real melody in it either. What peeves me even more is that alot of musicians, particularly guitarist, can now get away without having any talent whatsoever and some how get a million-dollar record deal. (Blink-182 is an example that comes to mind) But the great thing is I don't have to listen to the radio, and to be honest I've decided that radio has pissed me off so much that I don't listen to it except for the morning shows and to sometimes catch the news. I'm happy with my collection of Obscure metal bands and prog rock that no one has ever heard of. When someone asks me who Opeth or Porcupine Tree are, I just smile.
