We bought the Cold Mountain DVD this weekend and I thought it was a very well done movie. The previews for the movie did not do any justice to the movie. Have any of you seen the movie?

It a little of both. Trust me, I can't stand chick flicks and I watched the whole movie. Enough action and gore plus the story was very well developed. The best part of the movie was Nicole Kidman :P . Hey. I didn't pick the movie out, my wife did.
I just saw it this past week, and I didn't like it at all.
Nicole Kidman as a southern belle? Pullleeezzeee.
The only convincing performance in that movie was from Natalie Portman.
To me, it felt like the only reason why it got some critical acclaim was because of the few semi graphic battle scenes. It seems like any film will get some critical acclaim nowadays as long as it includes some sort of depiction of war as hell through "disturbing" imagery. It's the same thing with "the Pianist." I didn't think it was all that great, nothing really innovative in it, but I felt it got great reviews because some scenes were disturbing, but that is no reason why that makes it a great film.

Well, if they portrayed anyone as a southern belle they were telling the wrong story. The people in the story were not belles and beaux living an easy and elegant plantation life. They were hill people, descendents of the Scots who emigrated to America in the wake of the battle of Culloden. They didn't own slaves; hell, they barely owned themselves. They survived by dint of hard work and hard bargaining. They were clannish, suspicious of authority, stubborn as all hell, and more beholden to their interpretation of the law of God than to any earthly law.

This was a good movie, I thought Renee Zell... had her best performance and she deserved the supporting actress Oscar.
I saw it and thought it was pretty good. I like Kidman; redheads are very yummy

On a side note, I have been having a discussion about Dogville and won't spend the money on that movie. The question is about Nicole being chained in a dog collar to a big wheel. I know that there was a capture of this on the internet awhile back, but now a simple or complex search on the web won't produce the picture. Does anyone know the pic I'm talking about? And has Nicole gone too that much trouble to get the picture off the net?

The book sucked ***, my Dad insisted I read it, never even a debate on if I would see the movie.
