Hmmm, I at least watched Kerry's speech. How do you expect to discuss knowledgably on tax code reform, welfare reform, etc etc if you don't even know what the platform is?

You didn't watch Kerry's speech. You didn't even read it.

At least I have the decency to admit that I didn't watch it.

Allthough, unlike Kerry who never mentioned Bush, I'm sure Bush mentioned Kerry at least once by name. It's not like he was going to highlight his accomplishments or anything.

I didn't see it, i watched a repeat of giuliani's *shudder*, "we're america!" applause "we will not give up!" applause "they will!" applause (whoever "they" are) "i'm glad president bush is our president" applause "and d1ck cheney is a good guy aswell" applause

basically he took about 30 mins to say, america is generally really nice, bush is good, john kerry changes his mind a lot, and all of europe and the middle east is either funding terrorists or letting them free

I watched it even though whenever I see his face I wanna punch him. Same BS different day, he thinks that he was right in all that he has done and throws around a bunch of BS about what he has done and will do for America, sad that he cant say I will continue what I have already done instead he keeps focusing on we are turning a corner.

I just saw it, (6 hour tape delay in Hawaii) and I have to say, I was impressed. Impressed at how angry I got at GWB and his "agenda."

First of all, I watched the coverage on CBS. Second of all, it seemed like during the beginning of his speech, they had trouble finding the token black people, so they showed token asian people. The crowd shown on TV was as white as a goth person's make up. After about half an hour, CBS started finding out where all the balck people were hiding and even had to cut back to one black female twice to show some minorities.

Other than that, it was pretty much the same old bull you would expect from Bush. He announced several agendas that the crowd cheered for which just basically are wrong - ie We don't want activist judges who reqrite the laws from the bench. Of course, nominating judges who will do exactly this, but with a conservative agenda does not apply apparently.

He promoted his health savings accounts, which if you have not realized by now, would be a haven for really rich people to store their funds in tax free accounts.

He of course politicized 9/11, talking about in the beginning, middle and end of his speech - as a way to rally the troops behind him.

He insinuated ties between 9/11 and Iraq, he attacked Kerry several times through mockery, and again insinuating that he was a flip flopper, (making no mention of his little flip flop on the war on terror 2 days earlier - because according to his handlers, he mispoke, not flip flopped).

But one piece of brillance was that he tried to make fun of his lack of skills with the English language - that was a great piece of political work.

Ugh, I can't wait until he is out of the White House.

Delivery was distracting - it was obvious that there were 3 teleprompters set up, so that he could look like he was looking at the crowd, but was obviously going from teleprompter to teleprompter.

During the beginning of the speech, he would make statements and then attempt a smile, but the smile was as fake as Pamela Anderson's boobies.

Other than that, it was a typical GWB delivery, say a sentence, pause for 3 to 4 seconds, continue speaking, repeat.

Did he have that smug look on his face every so often when he navigated ten words in a row without a mistake?

No, only when he was making fun of Kerry and acting like invading Iraq made the world safer - a point that that he reiterated several times - which as you know is not true.

But at one point, he did struggle with the word struggle - which was quite funny.

Oh yea, and during the middle of the speech, a protester was removed from the convention hall, with lots of pubbies booing her of course.

One other thing that I forgot, at one point GWB stated that several Iraqis came to his office one day, Iraqis who had been tortured by the Hussein regime and had hands cut off.

He stated that at one point, one of these Iraqis wrote out, with his prosthetic hand, May God Bless America, or something close to that. Which struck me as nauseating.

CBS then cut to Barbara Bush and some woman sitting next to her, who I could not identify, and the person sitting next to Barbara had a look on her face similar to what I was feeling - "Oh Brother" and then rolled her eyes. CBS quickly cut away, that was awesome.

Did he mention that he keeps Saddam's pistol in his desk in the Oval Office so he can show it to big GOP contributors?

I tried to watch it I really did. The Convention hall was supurbly set up. All flags and nice lighting, and they had him come out between to moving flag displays with a huge Hoorah, everyone was cheering and patriotic. It really was an awe inspiring sight. Then he opened his mouth. He started the speech with this

Quote:
When I said those words four years ago, none of us could have envisioned what these years would bring. In the heart of this great city, we saw tragedy arrive on a quiet morning. We saw the bravery of rescuers grow with danger. We learned of passengers on a doomed plane who died with a courage that frightened their killers.

I was so disgusted I just shut off the TV and went to bed. It was a national fucking tragedy. Allot of people that were just doing their job died for a cause thousands of miles away that most of them could have cared less about. It's not a fucking campaign tool. It's not a republican victory. It's not going to make the world a better place for the next 4 years.

It's a blatent disgusting attempt to tug at America's heartstrings to help the GOP with it's own agenda. Im surprised they didn't dig up and parade firefighters charred corpses around the hall to help drive the salivating crowd into a foaming frenzy. I was hoping that the president would rise above this cheap trick, but I was dissappointed.

It's a 6 point bounce speech.

It was the best speech I've seen him give. It's really odd that it wasn't a well written speech, in my opinion, but he delivered it very well (comparing it to the low bar he sets for himself). The pregnant pauses were at the end of sentences and not in the middle of them, so it seemed to flow naturally with the applause.

There were awkward moments here or there. The speech focused on his "plan" for the future. They brought in the right wing social agenda after 30 minutes, and the common, middle of the road viewer had probably tuned out by then. He pulled out the "compassionate conservative" bullshit stuff again, made over-the-top promises he has utterly not intention of keeping (much like his last campaign), and stole his health care reform for small businesses from the Democrat playbook (something GOP'ers have stood in the way of for the last few years).

Overall, it was a B or B+ speech, and if you're grading on a Bush curve, it was a solid A.

I don't think there's even 6 points to get, but if so that would be pretty impressive.

I thought it was well delivered for an inarticulate Texican. He was visibly flustered each time the had to remove a protester. The country seems to think it was well delivered too. MSNBC reports the latest Zogby poll has a 7 point jump for El Prez. I have no link, as it was said during the coverage by Mr. Brokaw and Mr. Russert.

It's on TiVo, but I haven't watched it yet.

I can store a few days worth of TV, but I think the Discovery Channel has some specials on ninja coming up, so I might have to delete it to insure enough space for the ninja.

There weren't, I don't believe. I think that Rudy and the Governator made an impact with the independants. I am concerned that the data might have been gathered before taking the crazy assed Georgian in to account. I would love to see if there was a change.

I thought it was fairly well-written and his delivery was the best I've seen from him yet.
Apart from xenophobia, taking credit for things that have happened despite his policies, cashing in on casualties in the WTC and Iraq, it was effective.

If I were a US voter, it would probably push me to vote for Charles Manson if he were the alternative.

I listenend to the speech on NPR and it sounded okay. The pauses at the end of a few sentences where met with dead air, but the over all intent of the message was pretty good.

Since you didn't listen to it and the folks that have commented so far on it failed to listen to the entire thing all of you are a bunch of liberal girly men.
