Well, one, the Kerry/Davis comparison is pretty much a contrived fantasy of the GOP. I can't really think of anything they have in common on that front.

Yah, I thought that as well when I first heard it, or at least considered the possibility. Still, it had much more of a ring of truth to it than not. Being that I'm from Jersey, I don't know the intricate details of Davis' economic policies...then again most Californians probably didn't either.

I think though, that Kerry and Davis are quite similar, as *most* Dems and Republicans do have distinct differences in their handling of economic policies (with certain exceptions, Bloomberg in NYC for example, whom I happen to like actually). Based on the certain stereotypical economic beliefs of the party, Kerry and Davis probably had quite a few similarities...like support of labor unions, I'd be willing to bet Davis was a big fan of them. Kerry is too. How about the "Living Wage" deal...wasn't Davis leaning toward implementing that sort of thing? I get the sense from Kerry he wouldn't exactly run away from the idea either.

While those are only two issues, and economic policy encompasses much more than them, I think those are the types of issues that say a lot about what else the person will support...and what kind of economic decisions they will make. Whether those specific issues are good or bad things are a debate for another post, all I'm trying to do is show how they (Kerry and Davis) could be made to look similar.

I guess.

I can't see the GOP throwing money into comparing Kerry to Davis, it's just too silly even for a shot at CA.

Bush hasn't exactly been beneficial to the CA economy, Arnold has had to work around him more than anything. People in CA are aware of that.

The turnout thing is critical too, CA is very polarized by district, it'd be tough for Bush to win it even if made it the sole focus of his campaign.

Allthough, again, if he could, he'd win the general election handily.

I thought Arnie's speech was excellently written (by whom, Bob only knows) and delivered superbly. Yes Virus, inspirational. Pure Disney in it's homesy simplicity, but I was genuinely impressed. I'll also admit he sounded totally sincere. America can genuinely be proud to have an environment that can bring about his success story.

As for Mrs Prezz. . . Sickening!

You know the "Keep telling a lie long enough and people will believe it"? syndrome?

What f'ucking threat?! All of the inquiries failed to identify any 'threat' to the outside world from Saddam. Yes, he was a threat to Iraqis but we know the repeated implication that's being paraded across the media.

"When my husband took office, too many schools were leaving too many children behind, so he worked with Congress to pass sweeping education reform," she said. "I could talk about the fact that my husband is the first president to provide federal funding for stem cell research ... I could talk about the record increase in home ownership."

(a) You mean the critically underfunded No Child Left Behind debacle?
(b) Your husband was the first president in office when stem cell research became an actual field of science. That's like lauding Clinton for being the first president to press for legislation against internet pornography when Bush Sr did nothing about it. And I don't think Bush's stance on stem cell research is something you want to base your campaign around.
(c) You mean how home interest rates plunged as a result of a tanking economy? It's not as if Bush made the finance companies lower their rates so people could buy homes.

Well, incase you hadn't noticed, lots of movies (Hot Shots Part Deux, what a bad *** flick!) and such in the 90's used Saddam as the "bad guy", the "threat", as it were. Let's not sit here and pretend that Saddam was just sitting over there playing nice, and that no one thought he was a bad guy but G.W.B.. Plenty of people around the world considered Saddam a potential problem, and the thought that two world leaders talked about that potential is uh...well...normal? Saddam was "bad guy" numero uno for a while there, now, well...he's gone.

No, I really don't think anyone in the entire world considered him more of a threat than Kim Jung Il. Not even W. Just an easier target.

You're basing your argument on Hot Shots Part Deux? Seriously. I'll give you a chance to take that back if you want.

Well in the 90s we were kind of low on singular "enemies" that we could put a face to. Andhe did after all invade a neighboring country, so there is that sense of military aggressiveness. But his reach had always been rather short; he wasn't much of a threat except to the immediate surrounding area. Hell, he wasn't even harboring terrorists.

The man was a mass-murdering ***, but probably not in the top 10 around the world.

The repeated implication by Bush's brain donor wife and fuckwit supporters is that
a) He was a threat to people outside Iraq (Utter Bullsh
it)
b) He was linked with Al Qaeda (Again, disproven as utter Bullshit)
c) He had WMD (ditto)

As per Smash's comment. Where are the US troops in North Korea?

Besides, that was Varrus' best defense about Ms. Bush saying her husband was the "first" president to fund a technology that didn't exist before his presidency and neglecting to mention how he has greatly restricted the research through money bans and restricting the cell pool. You're going to let it bother you?

Edit to remove my complaint about thread breaking! ****.

I read a few weeks ago that Schwarzenegger would NOT be a featured speaker at the RNC because Bush couldn't credibly follow a marquee act like that. Obviously the stakes are high enough that they changed their strategy at the 11th hour. Now we get to see if it pays off.
