My good deed for the day.Follow

#1 Aug 31 2004 at 9:32 PM Rating: Default
So I was in school this morning and I was walking past the commons area when I see on the ground, two 10 dollar bills, I look around to see if anyone has a string on it or if anyone is looking at me funny waiting for me to just squat down and try and pick it up. Well no one is so bend over and take it, I see that it is $20 dollars so I look around again and then put it in my pocket.
So I take about 3 steps and I just feel this tug on me saying I should do something about the money I found, so I turn around and head to the office. The assisnt principle is there so I ask him that if I ever found some money and turned it in, that at the end of the day if no one claimed it could I have it? He says yes so I hand him the money. Well anyways I tell my friend about it and he's pissed off because that money could have gone to his party he's having this weekend but I say it was the right thing to do.
Later that day I walk by the office and the teacher tells me the owner claimed so I thought damn! Well I found out later it belonged to my co-worker and she came up and thanked me.

So anyways I did what was right but now that I did it I wish I hadnt and just kept the money.
Damn you!!

You'll make plenty of 20 dollars in your lifetime, but that one small act of decency probably made an impact on several people's lives, not the least of whom is the assistant principal. Trust me on this, acts like yours warm the cockles of an old educator's heart.

Good job. Seriously.

No, I wouldn't have. That's probably because I'm older, and I know better. Maybe you'll learn someday. Providing you reach maturity.

Never doubt yourself when you do a good deed. I don't personaly believe in karma or "what comes around, goes around" but knowing you have the integrity and character to do a thing like that should be enough.

Besides the next time you are down you can tell yourself that least you have a good soul.

Do you feel better about yourself? Did you sleep better last night? Is the co-worker who now thinks your one of the 3 nice guys left on the planet good looking?

When it comes right down to it. Allot of people have spent allot more than $20 bucks to feel a lot worse about themselves than what it cost you to turn those two 10s in you found.

You shouldn't be proud of turning the money in. It should be reflexive to do so.

It's a sad commentary on the state of the world when doing the right thing in a minor matter is praiseworthy.

Trunks, the fact of the matter is:

I just feel this tug on me saying I should do something about the money I found, so I turn around and head to the office

You KNEW what you should do. When you get to the point that you can go thorugh your daily life and do the right thing without looking for a pat on the head or second guessing yourself later, then you'll be man.

That won't be anything to be proud about either. It may be exceptional in this world of momma's boys, liars, emotional justifiers and sniveling thieves, but still nothing to brag about. It will just be a fact. Just like the fact that pride goes before a fall.

You'll be the man who cynnical opportunists feed off of as they use for a stepping stone to success in America.

Get over the concious thing, kid, before someone takes advantage of you.

Some of us still believe that there is more to life than just 20-70 years of sucking as much air and cramming as much food into our mouths as we can before taking a permanant dirt nap.

You know, I'd LIKE to believe in that stuff, but I just don't. I've really tried, but I can't brainwash myself into it.

I'm not into karma, reincarnation, rebirth by baptism, or any of that 'drink the koolaid' crap. Buncha tree-hugging hippies, if ya ask me.

But I do what I believe is right almost all of the time. Probably goes back to decent parenting and good genes.

seriously, if the whole world was full of people like kythex and trunks, it would be a great place, conversation wouldn't be all that interesting, but it'd be a great place none the less

I would have pocketed one $10 and used the other to buy a dimebag. But that's just me.

My buddy found a fancy *** chain in the boys bathroom after a big sports tournament at our highschool. He knew it belonged to one of the guys from out of town and which team the guy was on so he took it to Vice Prinicipal and gave him the lowdown.

The next day the VP's son comes to school wearing the fancy *** chain. We beat the shit out of the kid and took back the chain.
