1) Italy is the most beautiful and historically cultured country on this planet. It is a breathtakingly lovely place.
2) Italians take themselves way too seriously
3) Italian women are really really hot
4) Italian women go out all night but only give the illusion that they are drinking
5) Italian women do not let drunk people take their clothes off
6) Italian food is very good.
7) Italian food every night makes you want to gnaw your arm off
8) The chances of coming to blows with even the best of male friends increases exponentially over the course of a two week holiday
9) I am better at fighting than my best friend
10) My best friend will get revenge while I am asleep by throwing the contents of my suitcase out of a 4 storey window

I'm afraid I never got to see much of Italy, I was only there for 3 days while our plane broke down on the way back from Kuwait. I just remember coming out of the tent in the morning (we got in at 0 dark 30) and seeing the mountains go straight up. It was pretty breath-taking. We didn't get a chance to look around much as nobody really had any idea when our plane would be fixed and we would be taking off again. I guess they figured after 4 months of enforced sobriety that we would run amok and get in trouble. They were probably right.
Anyways, sounds like you had a good time. And no, you didn't miss much.

Absolutely, lots. Italians drink espresso often, and they pride themselves on making it well.

Thanks for the compliment PP. I respect a company that can take my type of products and services nationwide and develop a customer base that becomes educated in the art of espresso drinking. Once these people become educated in the art of espresso and specialty beverages some will venture out of the national chain to find the independent shops like mine. With out that chain of shops I would not be as successful as I am right now.

No they don't have me down. I draw customers in from them, because of their success, I am building my business on their failure to maintain a specific level of consistency, customer service and expectations from their customers. Don't take me wrong, I'm so small right now that I'm not even on their radar screen yet, but people in the region are looking for an alternative to the big corporate machine.

I find all italian food very samey. Each city tends to have a slightly different cuisine, but within a city the menu at every restaurant tends towards being very similar (I search out the best restaurants by the way, I avoid tourist crap). I am spoilt by London though where we have a plethora of very good French, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai, etc etc restaurants. I like variety on that sort of level. Pasta is pasta however you twist it.
This time around I went to Sardinia, Florence, Bologna, Milan and Lake Garda - it was my first time at all these places except Milan which I go to 2 or 3 times per year. Previously I have been to Naples (and done the entire classical thing - Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius etc), Sicily, Rome (many times), Parma and Venice. I also worked in Genoa for a few months.
I agree that they are all very different culturally, which is why it is such an amazing country to visit. Variety is the spice of life etc etc.

I can see that in a way, I ate very little pasta (unless it was for breakfat), in Italy. Usually steak, fish, pizza, etc. I guess what I loved most about the food in Italy was the approach to it. Sauntering upto a little cafe in the mountains near Bassano, and spending 4 hours on a "light lunch". Also the sandwich I had on the road from Faenza to Firenza (Florence) was one of the best I've ever had. Incredible little place up there in the mountains.
I'm jealous of you Europeans, so much to see in such a short distance. For the same distance here, I've only got the US to visit, which while a nice country is full of too many americains for my tastes. (Kinda like Venice)

I haven't been to Italy yet but I would love to. I especially want to see the coliseum, I am fascinated by the Roman Empire and the great achievements they accomplished. I also would like to visit Greece too.

Whant to trade places? I only live an hour from L.A. you know Movie Stars, the beautiful people, there is good sking a couple hours north, nice sunny beaches, it's sunny 90% of the year. Come on, you know you want to.
