McGreevey, a 47-year-old Democrat, refused to answer questions at the Statehouse news conference. He said that ''it makes little difference that as governor I am gay,'' but added that staying in office and keeping the affair and his sexual orientation secret will leave the governor's office ''vulnerable to rumors, false allegations and threats of disclosure.''

The farther you read down the article, the more it goes into detail about who this McGreevey is.

A straight man being extorted by an ex-lover, for being dumb enough to exchange political favors for sexual ones would be in the same position.

Yeah, a male poltician has never gotten a job for some chick he was boning on the side, that'd be a carreer killer.

Please. I think it'd be quite the struggle to find any politician who hadn't gotten a job for his mistresss.

Actually, it sounds like the Globe changed the story that link led to. The GOP angle didn't come out until about 11:30am Central this morning and he posted his link at 10:30ish.

CNN.com is good for that... they tend to append existing stories rather than have seperate links for the old story and every update or development that comes along.

Gah, I am sure there are some experience that people will draw the line at. That one is definetly at the top of my list to avoid. Right up there with watching reality TV shows, and listening to Bush and Kerry with their bad case of "Foot-in-mouth disease."

It's not the job - it's the extortion - he had been roasted (locally) for this appointment already. The gay issue rasied the stakes a bit, but he was most likely headed to defeat in the next election regardless. My guess is that if he gets hit with a sexual harrassment suit by a female (with the same circumstances - job favor as reward/hush, he's married, he's got other issues) - he's still gonna resign.

Getting someone a job isn't harrasment.

The list of politicians who've had "scandals" involving mistresses they got jobs for is too long to list. The list of the ones brought down because of it is tiny.

This was about him being gay while pretending to be straight. If he ran as an out gay man it wouldn't even make national news and he'd be fine.

I don't think he would have even been elected if he ran as an "out" gay man.

So if he stands up one day (and has no issues other than being gay) and announces as Governor of New Jesey that he is gay, he is going to resign?

I'm sorry, I disagree.

It may cost him the next election, but he would not have to resign.

I happen to agree with that. I don't believe a politicians sexual preferences are important while he is in office. Now once he is up for election and I find out he is gay, I will most likely not vote for him. Of course, since we are taking about New Jersey and not Texas. It really doesn't matter that much does it? Smiley: grin

I live in New Jersey and we should've seen this coming. I mean the guy changed the state bird to the Swallow, was trying to rename the Garden State Parkway to the Hershey Highway, and we know he hated Bush, but this is just ridiculous.

OF course he wouldn't have.

If he had for some reason, and won, though, this would be no big deal.

Barney Frank's boy toy was running a fucbking gay prostitution ring out of his congressional offices and he was elected again in a landslide.

Michael Huffington ran for senate in California a few years back against Feinstein, I think. It later (after the election, which he lost) came out that he is gay. I'm unsure if he simply came out or if it was involuntary. He was married. He is republican. As I recall he is a billionare and self made, although I certainly could be wrong about the self made thing. His wife seems to have good political ideals but I only recall him as rather quite.

So our fanatically right wing republicans actually nominated a gay man for senate here in California. I'm sure they are being far more careful now because they are so anti-gay.

So Pulseczar, are you really a confirmed pole smoker or are you just experimenting? I only ask, because you need to know there's a saying that goes, "You suck one d1ck, you're a ********** for life." Just sayin'.

It's two different stories from two different days. The problem with online newspaper sites is that you usually don't get the news as it developes. The positive side is that they generally wont go back and change an old story (or update a current story, essentially voiding a link if you are trying to prove a point).
