If any of you have been keeping up with Intel's new LG775 chipset. You will notice the presence of a PCIe x16 slot, and motherboards that use DDR2 instead of DDR. Do you think Intel is moving a little fast with two new technologies that are barely out yet?

It's worked for them for the last 40 years or so, can't see what they'd stop now.

It's all a giant pissing contest with them and AMD. PR is more important than usability.

Their just trying to keep their edge over AMD, and with PCIe they have it. Until AMD can incorperate something similiar.

You mean, the will have it. Once there is a better selection of PCIex16 cards out there. Right now there are a few graphics cards out there for that slot, but PCIe cards haven't even come out yet. DDR2 won't even start coming out until September, but you can already buy a few of the new motherboards. I think they should have waited until the companies building DDR2, PCIe x16, and PCIe had a bit more notice. They should have talked to the companies and worked out a date to bring this stuff out together.

No profit in that. Make something new, you buy it. Make something better than before, you buy it. Its a running theme in the computer industry. I just bought a geforce fx 5950 ultra and I'm gonna have to upgrade again to play Doom 3 because im not happy getting 30fps.

Ouch! What are you running? I am running a 5900XT and I didn't have any problems with Far Cry except for my motherboard (MSI K7T Limited Edition), RAM (PC-133 512MB), and Processor (AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53 Ghz). The video card was fine. Of course I'm not even contemplating Doom3 until I can upgrade the rest of my system this January.

Corsair's XMS is really good. I like OCZ as well. My brothers computer runs wonders around his friends after I put in the OCZ PC-3700 Enhanced Bandwith RAM. Much better than that generic stuff he had. Only problem with me working on his system is that he has to mail it from Florida to Texas so I can work on it.

Yeah, well even the 6800 only puts out about 69 fps. Doom III just plain kicks butt on any of the new systems out there. Even my 5900XT apparently only puts out about 26 fps. Of course, the rest of my system would probably drop that down to -26fps. ~grin~

as of right now you cannot find a geforce pck 6860 ultra anywhere. Which sucks, seeing as my replacement for the toasted motherboard will have a pcx 16 slot. I'm hoping by the end of August. We'll see. If anyone wants a good deal on a used processor, let me know.

Yep, NewEgg only have a few 5750's, and the x600's for the PCIe x16's. I will probably just upgrade to an P4 3Ghz Northwood and wait until after I have replaced my laptop to update to an LG775 motherboard.

Here's something to blow your mind.

Dual Graphics w/ SLI

Wow, two graphics cards with PCIe. Now that really gets my attention.

Sounds like a good chip, but I'm an AMD man.

During our occasional breaks, we've more often than not found ourselves discussing weird product names. Though names like Celeron were often associated with a kind of vegetable that not many would have the tastebuds to appreciate, AMD's Duron processor had an even worse reaction among users. While some users actually associated it with the name of a company that makes contraceptives, retailers in Singapore actually had an even vulgar version of the name which when spoken in the Chinese Hokkien dialect would literally mean 'pissed'. Of course, those who loves the fragrant (some say stinking) Durian (a tropical fruit found in South East Asia) would find themselves easily identifying with the Duron too. Well, we're not entirely certain if these names were the result of the user's experience of the product, but either way, we don't think a product name should have such an adverse reaction, especially not in the mind of users.

So, fast forward to this day and we still have Intel sticking to the Celeron name, which we believe is not so bad, considering that 'celery' is, after all, part of an important food group. However, AMD has shed off the Duron brand and came up with yet another innovative naming although we were all quite puzzled as to the true meaning of the word - at least when we first heard it. But a quick search in our trusted Latin dictionary came up with the word "Semper", which in Latin means "always". Although the name rhymes with their competitor's product, Celeron, AMD claims that it is meant to represent their tradition to always strive to provide more value to their customers. To AMD, Sempron suggests "daily use, practical, and part of everyday life".

Hardware Zone

Well, I never actually thought much about the processor names. I was more interested in performance. Here is a guy who went a little to much into it, but some of them are kind of funny.
