The new Iraqi currency is at a whopping 1/6 of a penny (roughly) right now. Has anybody considered buying any, or is it too much of a longshot?

1 Dinar = 1/6 US Cent

I'll stick with counterfeiting Pesos, thanks for the tip that there's another worthless currency out there though.

Buy a few million Dinars, and if you don't turn a profit it on it, write it off on your tax return as a charitable donation. Since you'll be helping to increase demand and value of the Dinar against the dollar, it's actually charity to a fledgling nation. ;)

I'll look into that..thanks for the info. I paid about $200 for about 225K Dinar. I won't really miss the $200, and I consider the investment more along the lines of betting on horses.

However, I may have been safer buying Gil.

Cool idea, but if you don't want much risk, buy a gallon of gas/petrol. That is almost assured to be worth more in a few days...

I wouldn't buy any. It's going to get devalued and tied to the dollar and you're going to have $200 worth of kindling.

Oh well...since I've already bought it, there's not much I can do about it now. I'll just stuff it away w/ my comic books and LP's. Was just wondering if anybody else had done the same or thought about it.

I'm sure the penny stock get rich quick crowd is all over it.

I bet if you type "Investing in dinar" into google you'd find all sorts of message boards from serious risk/reward anlaysis to conspiracy theorists who think the world bank will start buying dinar to stabilize it.

That joke is ruined by the knowledge that the bill denominations are extremely large - e.g. 10 Million Lira bills...etc.

You're right, but like I said, it's just for fun. I'm not dumping my mutual funds.

When I was there a few years ago they alleady had passed a bill to print new 1 lira notes and evalue the currency by removing "six zeroes" from the value.

Well...I'm still dropping money into my mutual funds every month, so if my $200 get rich quick (meaning less than 10 years) scheme doesn't pay off, I might have something to fall back on in 30 years.

Don't recall mentioning bills. Your bad time of the month?.

As it is I usually have a few wads of 250,000 bills (lowest value banknote atm). Great toy money for smaller nephew/nieces.
