Funny that you "damn" God for the noise, then "thank" him when it stops.

He said "God damn", i.e. "damned by God" or unholy.

Besides, who else are you going to go to?

Maybe so oh pompus one. But it is still putting "the lords name in vain". The point was he dogged God(no matter if you say goddamn/damngod/goddamnit ECT) then thanked him, just strikes me as odd.

When I'm put in my place, I'll let you know how I feel about it.

How, exactly, is "God damned" taking the Lord's name in vain? Would "God blessed" be doing the same? Is it not true that, within the Judeo-Christian belief, the Lord not only blesses things but condemns things as well? Are we to remain quiet and not mention when God shows his disfavor because it's somehow disrespectful to hint that perhaps the Lord views something unfavorably?

I bet God hates noisy gates as much as the rest of us and that there's no annoying gate sounds in Heaven.

Type all you want that still dosent change the fact that it IS taking his name in vain. Dont believe me just go ask a minister or preacher or even a satanist.

As for the edits oh another pompus one, I though it best not to further offend the guy by what I had written. Sorry you have a problem with edits must be sad for you.

She (I'm assuming it's a she given the name Leelou) had originally wondered at how I got so many posts. And made some bad pun using the word "peon".

Obviously I racked up posts by drawing dingbats into arguements over the sanctity of the phrase "god damn" Smiley: laugh

Got the name wrong there

Im sorry but you are wrong. I was not wondering how you got any posts. Just surprised that with such a high post count you couldnt fathom being called pompus, which is what you were being. And yes the pun was bad so I nixed it.

Oh and the name is Leelou not leela ....ok you fixed it

Not that it matters, but the original meaning of "lord's name in vain" was asking god to do something bad to someone...i.e. calling his name for a "vain" or "conceited" request.

Whereas the phrase "Goddamn" is just an expression with none of the original meaning retained.

And Im 100% sure God would disagree with you.

Not that Im a holy roller or anything but I did learn a few things at church. One being that connecting God's name with ANYTHING foul or unplesant is in fact taking his name in vain. Im sure that goes for the word damn as well.

Who the hell says damn god (ojbect)?

God damn (object) is telling god to damn whatever it is, to send it to hell.

Idiot.

THAT is a lot of what's wrong with most right-wing religious nuts.

They're quite sure that they know God's will and you're gonna hear about it whether you asked to or not.

You know what? MY god is considerate, not some holy-roller loving, televangelist endorsing, beat-on-your-door-on-Saturday-morning promoting, sactimonious, old got-a-stick-up-my-*** God.
You might want to introduce your God to him sometime. Maybe he'd give her a doobie and teach her how to unwind. If she ever gets off her period.

****, lighten up.

Edited to fix typo :)
