New book identifies Ireland as Atlantis
04/08/2004 - 10:21:27

A new book investigating the myth of Atlantis says that the mythical land was actually the island of Ireland.

The claim is made by geologist Ulf Erlingsson in his book 'Atlantis from a Geographer’s Perspective: Mapping the Fairy Land', who is to visit Ireland on August 11 to 13.

In his book Erlingsson bases his evidence on Plato's desription of Atlantis which, according to Erlinsson, matches Ireland perfectly. Statistically, the scientist claims, the probability is over 99.98% that Plato was describing Ireland.

Ah. So how did a natural disaster on Ireland destroy their invading armies in Greece, and destroy the ancient Athenian civilization as well?

I'm betting there's a 99.98% probablity that he's just trying to make some money selling a book about a subject that the public is traditionally very gullible about. But maybe I'm just being cynical.

Gee, you really think so, Einstein? You mean a book about Atlantis might not be grounded in accurate hard science?

Thanks for enlightening the rest of us.

Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Hey! There might have been a few who didn't get it. Given the bizaare thought we got on the last thread about Atlantis, I just wanted to throw that in there before the tinfoilhats got a bit to thick.

I had a crazy *** teacher in grade 11 that thought that all modern technology was reversed engineered from Atlantean technology when they found the Atlantis.

I did try to point out to her that it is the "Lost" City of Atlantis and she got mad at me.

The thing is that she was 99.98% positive of her claim. Doesnt make her right and neither does it make this guy.

I always thought you more a mix of Helen Keller and Dan Quayle.

The original Stargate movie turned me off so bad, that I've never been able to watch any of the series. But the Atlantis connection looks like it could be interesting.

How is Stargate Atlantis? Isn't that the new series from the SciFi Channel? Didn't a guy named Milo find Atlantis? If you answer the last one, your as tired as I am. I haven't seen that stupid movie in months and I can still come up with that name. Damn you, Disney!!!
