Just remembering now: Doom was the game that turned me into a Shotgun *****. I can't help myself now: if I play a FPS I want the shotguns. It must of been the way things exploded and flew back when you hit them with one.

Well, I beat level 1, and now I'm crying from the lack of ammo in the map. I keep using up all of my new machinegun's ammo, same with my shotgun... Then I get right next to the infirmary, and die when I can't kill 2 imps with my poistol =\

I didn't say it was a good thing to do that. I was offering suggestions if the low diffculty seemed too hard.

Nah.... I have been wanting to figure out how to get the console to come down, though.

Do you know the FPS command? I want to see what I'm getting, because I know it's not much

My computer coming in the mail:

Radeon 9600
2.8 gig processor
512 ram

Think it can play doom3 any good?

And to the poster and whoever else has this game... what is your computer specs?
#14 Aug 02 2004 at 11:22 PM Rating: Good
I'd grab another 512mb of Ram.

That'll do nicely.

(DDR preferably)

You can probably find it on sale at Bestbuy or Mircocenter for around 70-90 bucks.

If not on sale they are closer to 130 dollars for a stick of 512 Mb.

(Btw, "on sale" is always a mail in rebate. Don't say "I'll do it later" 'cause you wont. Just do it or you'll put it off until it's too late and be out of a good 70 bucks or so.)

god damn f*cking morons waving their hardware ***** around.

hey dudes! i just spent money on a really good machine! do you think it will run this game even though it *easily* beats all the minimum specs?

im on an athlon xp 2000+ (clocked at 1.7) and a geforce fx 5200 ultra with 512 ddr. my machine runs doom fine at the low setting (which still looks better than any other game, ever) and it stutters a bit at medium.

if your video card has 128mb of memory it will run doom 3 o problem.

I thought I was getting on average, 15 FPS. I'm getting 4.

My machine beats the **** out of Hippo's, much less the minimum requirements. I play on 1280x1024, so I've assumed that was why, even at low, I was getting low fps.

But there is absolutely no reason why I should be getting 4 FPS on a 2800+, 1GB of DDR ram(PC3200), GeForce 5600 with 256mb of ram. It makes no sense.

My good machines mobo is fried, and I'm too lazy to go buy a new one and put everything back together.... But this machine should still run it fine. AA and all of that is off, and the settings are set to performance over quality.... I don't get it. Gaaaah.

Well, I'm at the alpha labs now, cheated a bit and gave myself a chainsaw. (What? I had to have one!)

Edit: Been playing nonstop... Now I'm at the Guardian, and no clue how to kill him :(

When buying RAM, or really any computer part, I recommend checking pricewatch.com first. I got 2 sticks of 512mb DDR 2700 RAM (premium) for a little over $100. Do your research and you can save a bundle.

Duly noted.

However, if you are buying your computer from a local store, I can almost guarantee you that you overpaid. By that, I mean that buying online is almost always cheaper, especially when it comes to buying separate components.

I built my computer from scratch for just over $500.

MSI K7N2-L mobo
Athlon XP+ 2600
1024mb DDR PC2700 RAM
Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb
A pre-modded case with a window, 2 case fans, and a LCD screen
A 450-watt power supply

Now, I already had a monitor, keyboard and mouse. But you can get those 3 things for $100 if you look cheap.
