Okay, The collective brain power on this board should be able to answer this...

How does one become an Israeli citizen?
Or more specifically...

If Israel just annexed the West Bank and Gaza, would they have to let the indigenous population become citizens (voters)?

It would depend if they were Jews or not.

That's not a flippant sarcastic answer, that's really the way it is. Were they Jews they could become citizens almost immediately because of the Law of Return. If they weren't they'd have to go through the naturalization process unless they provided a blanket amnesty of some kind. If they were to be naturalized it'd take about five years or so.

Edit: That all assumes they annexed them wholesale and not as protectorates or whatnot.

Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Go figure. And here I thought this was gonna be a homosexual's cry for help to either learn how to appreciate the opposite sex or to ask for beauty tips on how to manage curly hair.

Sheesh. Will it never end, you administrators? Why stop at that? Why not just give him moderator powers as well so he can delete all those conservative posts he can't defend himself against.

Ok, serious answer time.

That has been a workable solution for the Arabs living in Palestine for some time now (to become an Israeli citizen). They'd become involved in the political process from the inside rather than by intifada, would gain some legal rights in the process, and could create their own political parties that would wield considerable power due to their numbers.

But why has this not happened en masse?

Stigma.

The stigma among Arabs to claim Israel as their homeland is almost universal, regardless how irrational it may be to someone not so emotionally connected with the intractible problems over there. The best analogy that illustrates this that I can come up with is akin to asking a Red Sox fan to just simply start rooting for the Yankees (it also explains why baseball fans and political pundits alike hooted in derision when Hillary swapped her Cubs allegiance for a Yankee one. It was so patently false, because it smacked of the same Clintonian pandering we'd seen for the past eight years). It just doesn't happen. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen or shouldn't happen, but it just doesn't. I suppose that just like Red Sox fans, some people prefer to be victims rather than on a winning, workable team.*

I resent that! I'm a Red Sox fan but have been following the Yankees, albeit because everyone else in my house is/was rabid Yankees fans, and we always watch Yankees games, etc...so I follow them just by virtue of the fact that they're the most familiar to me. Hell I know New York's entire starting lineup, with backups, and I can't even name more than half a dozen Sox anymore.

So, please resume the politico-talk or whatever this thread is supposed to be.

Wait till next Yeah. The Bo Sox'll show ya. How many games back now? 9 games out and 1/2 game out of wild card standing. hahahahaha. Well at least they have a better chance at getting to the play offs than the Royals.

I think that comes under the "Who cares" category. As long as they are blowing themselves up and not us, I could care less. Well, that is unless they sell us oil and then I care. ~grin~
