Holy crap The Village SUCKED!Follow

#27 Aug 02 2004 at 3:55 PM Rating: Decent
I haven't seen The Village yet, but I probably will. If only to see why everyone seems to think it sucks.

I saw Harold and Kumar yesterday and it was really, really dumb. I usually like stoner movies but even high it was just plain bad. It had a couple funny moments but overall, it just didn't do anything for me. I'm glad I didn't pay to see that one.

I also thought I, Robot was good. Though I knew before watching it that the story wasn't actually based on the book so I didn't go in with those expectations.

Too bad. I, Robot is an excellent collection. Actually, I thought about picking up a copy but I balked at the thought of the Barnes & Noble cashier thinking I just stepped out of a Will Smith movie and decided to buy the novelization.

Yes, I care that much about what Barnes & Nobles cashiers think of me

Hehe, I just noticed that you were female today. I always saw "SamiraiX" instead of Samira.

I used to date a girl named Samira when I lived in Boulder.

She was too cool for school!

I saw this thread title a few days back and decided I'd come back to it after I saw it. >.<

We went tonight and I must say that it was my favorite M. Night movie so far. This might be due to the fact that someone ruined The Sixth Sense for me the night before I saw it, but hey. I thought the filmmaking quality of it was incredible and Ron Howard's daughter was exceptional. I did figure out the movie less than halfway through but it wasn't ruined since it of course isn't revealed until later. It's not a movie for everyone and I think it's the victim of terrible mismarketing.

You know, I have a tendency to pre-judge movies before I go see them. If there's enough peer pressure (read punanny) involved, I'll go see it no matter what I've already decided. But overall, I'm shooting something like 99% on my 'This one is going to suck ***' pre-rating system.

Some clues a movie is going to suck:

If it's about an event every 3rd grader already knows the history of, you might want to save your money.

If it is a remake of a movie that didn't do well the first time, the popcorn and soda at the theater are probably a better value than the ticket.

If it's a 'comedy' and you haven't seen anything funny in the trailers, that's a hint that it's really just a tragedy, not a comedy.

If it's a sequel and the first movie sucked....guess what?

If you've heard more than one person say it sucked, they're probably right. Even mediocre movies seem better when the loss of $8 is fresh in your mind and your ego is trying to validate that for you.

None of these are hard and fast rules and every one of them has been failed to prove true on at least one occasion, but they are good money (and time) savers. ***** hollywood.

Am I the only one who actually liked this movie? My fiance liked it too. Never guessed the ending would turn out like that. Nice twist but as good as the 6th Sense or Unbreakable but still a good movie.

No surprise there, buddy-boy. Try reading a review before you go next time and save yourself eight bucks. I knew it sucked before it came out. What's your excuse?

Dumbest suggestion ever.

Rely on reviews and you will hang yourself from all the utter crap you will watch. Of course, I saw the trailer, and knew this movie wasn't for me.

I don't know. I haven't seen many movies that deviated from the consensus at Rotten Tomatoes. If they think it sucks, it almost allways sucks.

They have the village at 43/100.

It would be like if they had made the LOTR movies with Bilbo as the main character who was a dectective who uncovers Gandalf's pipe weed smuggling "ring".

Hahaha. Good laugh.

Rotten tomatoes? Never heard of it. A movie review site that isn't going to give Gili a good rating I am betting :)

I really think of reviews as the ones you see in the Newspaper with all the stars and say so ans so delivers such a wonderful performance but in reality the entire flick is a steaming heap of crap, while they dump on I, Robot because it wasn't word for word the same as the book.

You had a bit of a case until you brought up I, Robot. The movie was like some odd sort of drug induced spin-off with the same characters, and the same overall situation.

This movie isn't for the summer blockbuster crowd so if that's what you're looking for, stay home or see something else.
