It made sense to me, I just know there are people who aren't as quick on the uptake around here.

And btw, who the **** is rating Smash down in the Asylum??

I know Moe or Pickle would't rate Smash down, so I'm guessing Pulseczar or someone else who can't take a heated discussion.

My advice: go back to the FFXI where you belong.

I vote for Varus being the idiot KT of the day.

It's not that he can't take a heated discussion (hell, he likes to start them), it's just that it's fun to slander him and he probably does rate down people who disagree with him. :->

And my advice to Gadin: if you think the FFXI forums don't get heated discussions, you're reading the wrong damn threads.

"You must beleive in God, too." --Smasharoo

Actually, this is a real problem for the Democrats, Smash, if you think about it. Dems have a larger percentage of their voter base who consider themselves religious than the Republicans do, yet the party is universally accepted to be, on the whole, anti-religion, at least in the public eye. This facet puts these voters in an uncomfortable position that is at odds with their beliefs when Kerry says things like "I believe life begins at conception, yet it's not a person until it's born, therefore I support a woman's right to choose."

He, in this instance, speaks to their core beliefs about the sanctity of life, yet ignores it for the practical issues of abortion.

Now, while this is not to hijack this thread, it illustrates the extremis the average religious (think Christian and Jewish) voter is placed in when asked to vote for Kerry. It may not be an issue for you since you are an atheist, but for many of your fellow Democratic brothers and sisters it is very much an issue they wrestle with on a daily basis.

Rating down a 10k+ poster is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

It's like the wings of a butterfly brushing against a mountain....maybe one day it will erode...maybe one day...

So what the hell is it, then? A flying squirrel?

Can't have it both ways - it can't both be alive at conception (and since both parents are people, that would make it a person) and not be a person until it's born.

There is no room in the law for human entities that are non-persons in the eyes of the law, and Ra'ishan take pity on anyone who tries to shoehorn that kind of crap in.

Yes, I'm religious. No, I'm not Christian. Now STFU!

Did you really listen to the speech? Did you miss the part about faith?

He, in this instance, speaks to their core beliefs about the sanctity of life, yet ignores it for the practical issues of abortion.

No, this is where you view the world through a grossly oversimplified lens of the conservative echo chamber.

He, in that instance, speaks to his personal beliefs about when life starts, but recognizes that his religous beliefs are sperate from the Constitution of the United States.

Therin lies all the diffrence.

Kerry adressed it clearly in the speech.

Pay attention next time.

I figure I'll just let it get down to 3.01 and then ask Illa to bump back up to 3.50.

Whatever happened to seperation of church and state? I used to take it to mean that the state should treat everyone equally - no matter their creed / etc. We know this doesn't work out all the time - but it's probably why maybe most democrats don't have that problem you're talking about.

Then again - the US does not rank as the most secular country in the world - so maybe there is queue of people waiting to burn Kerry at the stake for being a witch or something (or a catholic but not a member of pro-life (some cans of worms really should not be opened))

Of course the founding fathers may have actually meant "seperation of your church from our state" as they would never have imagined any but god-fearing WASPs forming the US of A but we won't go there.

Considering most of them weren't Christian I kind of doubt that.

That's all. They apparently heard that once, were, by and large too disinterested in politics to actually check out the values and goals advocated by the parties, and were finished thinking about their decision.

The democrats want my money so I vote republican.

Hmmm I wonder why....maybe it's because Republicans like the idea of tax cuts and democrats don't.

Democrats don't have a problem with tax cuts. They have a problem with tax cuts without spending cuts because they lead to crippling deficits that can only be resolved by raising taxes.

That's not a horrible display of cronyism.

THIS was.

You had to watch the guy's karma moving up a lot over the whole thing. (He was at 4.03 when I went to sleep - he's since been camped down.) :-)

Of course we're talking about 2009 sometime even with my ever vigilant army of karma campers.

Or are we having a Puritans aren't Christians moment (much like my mother does Christadelphians aren't human) ?

Palimpset, you're missing the point. As is Smash.

The Republican Party embraces religious faith and to some degree or another incorporates it into policy, which can turn into law on occasion. The Democrats give faith and religion lip service, but don't let it affect their day-to-day political lives-- which causes problem for religious people. After all, religion doesn't do you much good unless you are willing to act on your faith. This is the dichotomy that these people are placed in: Feel free to believe, but just don't let it show any sign of imfluencing your daiy life or votes.

No, don't parade your faith around in a cynnical way to get votes.

Jimmy Carter, deeply religous, Democrat.

Jerry Fallwell, overtly religous, Republican.

Who is the more devout man? If you think Carter pays his faith "lip service" you're really out of touch about this in a signifigant way.

MDenham, you're gonna have to give me the Cliff's Notes version of that thread. My eyes glazed over after the second post and I didn't see Allakhazam giving Smash a new toy to play with anywhere in there.

The only person singled out for special treatment around here here by Alla and his merry band of twinkle toes is Smasharoo. That's life. We need to deal with it.

It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so cloying and sticky sweet. I feel I need to go shower in scalding water after every time Alla does that baby talk thing when Smash does something new. Look! Look! Smashie took his first steps! Give him a new and special title! Look! Look! Smashie said his first word! He said "liberal!" I had hoped he would say "Alla-goo-goo" or something, but I'm still soooooo pleased with my widdle boy! I'm gonna give him a Ferrari when he turns 30!
