I just saw this **** on TV. Comedy Central.

Gah, I hope it's a spoof.

The game is sponsored by PASS (Parents Against Sports Society)

The kids just hold the ball. And they decide how many points they want for doing so. And when they want to, they give the ball to the next kid.

What ever happened to, 'Aghhh, he bit me!!!' on the playground?

Jeez, we're raising a bunch of little pusses. I'm gonna go have a kid just so I can make him into a mean little *******. He'll be able to kick his entire class's ***.

/sigh

So sad.

When I was a kid we played a game called Kill the Guy with the Ball.

Can you imagine someone used to Holdball suddenly finding himself the target in a game of Kill the Guy with the Ball?

Ah, yes.

What a wonderful-- hey! You've got the ball! EVERYONE, LET'S GET ARIES! SMEAR THE *****!

Yeah, we used to play Kill the Man with the Ball, too.

It was a tough man contest, essentially. Any puss that threw away the ball before taking some real punishment would get drilled anyway. Or if he turned out to be the type that would whine about that...we just wouldn't let him play after that day. I wouldn't mind seeing THAT as a professional sport.

Ah, fond childhood memories. I miss that game! Come to think of it, I don't think you needed to have the ball to get tackled. It was more like a free for all. Fun, though.

First they outlaw Dodgeball in schools, now Holdball? At least make the sissies run an obstacle course or something.

Having been an athlete for the majority of my life, this makes me question what people are teaching their children about the nature of competition. Sure some people can take it too far (stories about hockey, soccer and football parents attacking each other and the like freak me out), but without competition at a healthy level how will these kids end up in 10 years?

When I was a kid, we used to "swordfight" with bamboo sticks, roughly 3-4 feet long. Man, those things left some series bruises. Good times, good times.

Kids should play rough, I think. I don't know how it is everywhere else, but here in the South, boys play rough, tough, and dirty until the sun goes down. Don't get me wrong, I love computers and reading, but I think too much of that for kids can make for some pretty wimpy men in the future. I'm glad those things weren't as predominant when I was a kid as they are now.

I'm less concerned with young boys turning out to be wimpy than having kids grow up thinking that if someone is holding a ball they won't take the first opportunity they get to chuck it at your face.

I loved that game...

In fact it wasn't until I was about 19 years old that I found out that "*****" had a meaning other than: "That SmackTard with the ball! GET HIM!"

I also played smear the *****, but we called it kill the carrier. Also played suicide, a game with a tennis ball and getting pegged at close range for not catching it and my personal favorite, king of the mountain, which is pretty self explanitory (still have scars from this one).

edit: forgot about the rock fights in elementary school, what brainsurgeon school administrator decided to put 1/2" diameter rocks in the playground instead of sand? (and that was the first time i was suspended from school)

Holdballs and Smear the *****?

You guys are gayer than a Tom of Finland art show at a beer bust sponsored by the Harvey Milk Center.

Just sayin' :)

One of these days it's gonna be YOU who finds yourself holding the ball, and don't be surprised when everyone goes all Flying Dutchman on your ***.

Anyone else here have BB gun and bottle rocket wars?

Pre-paintball, we kids used to pack all sorts of nasty ways of damaging each other.

You'd be amazed at how much noise an M-80 (a real one, not the ***** ones you see now) makes when it goes off inside a car. My cousin thought it would be a great joke setting that off in my back seat while I was driving. Blinded me for like 5 seconds. He was deaf for about an hour or so and had ringing in his ears for 2 months. Ahh, the fun.

I can still recall the sounds of joy emitted by one young and rotund chap who fell down got shot nigh point-blank in the taint. Ahh, sweet memories.
