Fine, you have pointed out an obvious social problem in this country. How astute.

I heard crap like this when I was a kid growing up. It's ignorant. Do you think those people WANT to be in that situation? If you do, you're truly naive. Nobody really WANTS to be a burden to anyone else. And nobody wants to be pointed out as such.

The fact of the matter is that blacks in this country are struggling against a persistant socio-economic uphill slope.

Until you've been denied better, but cheaper housing on the basis of nothing but your name (because it sounds ghetto) or stereo-typed as lazy, prone to drug addiction, theft, dishonesty, adultery, and every other vice in the book, maybe you're just incapable of empathy.

Do some people overcome these obstacles? Yes, and worse. But to demand that an entire segment of society somehow pull itself up by the bootstraps and overcome the lack of education, public support, and trust that has been the stigma of black people in this country is ludicrous.

It will take continued effort and time before black people in this country reach a true level of equality with white people.

Say what you will, but the situation is improving. At least in the Southeast, blacks and whites now get together to discriminate against Mexicans. I'm not joking. This is happening. It's not KKK sort of violent cross-burning and demonstrations. But I've seen it going on quietly. A black guy and a white guy standing together mumbling about how the Mexican guy did this or that. Never the other way around.

Anyway, I drifted from my point. My point is that the reason you see so many black people in a ghetto is that white people with money put them there. And that's where they want them. And getting out of the ghetto is HARD. To get out of the ghetto, you have to make a lot of very difficult sacrifices. Family, friends, personal history, memories. And then you have to get the ghetto out of you. That's hard, too. All in all, it's a lot easier to just stay in. And that's why people do.

Also you say that nobody wants to live in the ghetto (this is a paraphrase)? This is completely untrue have you ever worked with with these hood rats? You can't drag them out of the ghetto they like the action and excitement that lifestyle provides.


Blowing them for quarters in the alley doesn't count as "working with them".

Actually being an ex college and pro basketball player i've had more than my share of experiences with nig*ers. Can you say the same? Or are you just going by what you've learned on the tv? Hell my best friend in high school was a nig*er that was high jumping 7ft by his junior year. The skin heads and neo ***** sure liked a white guy always hanging around a bunch of brothers all the time let me tell ya. All this said the fact remains nig*ers love the ghetto, they glorify it, and amuse themselves at anyone who hasn't lived in the ghetto. It's a pride thing. This is my block and if you don't like i'll pop a cap in your ***.

Yes, I have (and do) work with ghetto rats.

My company tends to pay less than larger companines in the same field. They also have the policies of a ten person company, not one with around 500 employees. So when dealing with minor things like drug testing, payroll, logistics, etc.... we're a couple of decades behind.

Specific info:

In this warehouse, we have 19 people on the 2nd shift on any given day (7 days). We have 16 on 1st shift (5 days).

The warehouse manager is on vacation, so I'm 'the man'. Woot. Huzzah. All that. This week, I have picked up beer bottles, roaches (not the insect), and 1 police report for a fight on the property. All of this happened at night...and none of the participants in the fight even worked here.

In other words, it's a ******* circus. Zoo is a more appropriate word, actually. These guys behave like ******* animals. They steal, both from the warehouse and from each other. Personal hygeine is not high on the list of priorities with some of them. There are are least 5 sets of hubcaps spinning after the cars have stopped moving every afternoon. We have no shortage of bass as the shifts change. Someone took a **** in a wastebasket that was less than a foot from a working clean toilet last week. Need I go on? I don't have to go to the ghetto; it comes to me.

Now, I don't blame the entire group for these events. Not everyone is doing this stuff. But everyone fits in on 2nd shift. There are no outcasts. Everyone fits together well because they're all ghetto. And they're actually damn productive. It's hell cleaning up their messes, but they get the job done and it's done well, incredibly enough.

I know some of the guys outside of work. Take them away from the hood, dress them up, and put them in a nice environment...and they fit in. I know several guys that have used this company as the lever to get themselves out of the ghetto. But they are the exceptions, not the rule.

It's damn hard to turn down an easy buck for most people. It gets a LOT harder when you have the deck stacked against you in the first place. If you give in to the easy illegal money, then sooner or later you get caught. And when you do, you enter the endless cycle of prison and joblessness. You can't get a really good job because you're a 'bad person.' And you're a 'bad person' because you don't have a good job.

When Marion Barry gets caught smoking crack, he can get re-elected. Excuses work when you have money and influence. When you don't have money and influence, no excuse is good enough. You see this as a largely 'color' issue. I see this as a socio-economic issue that is largely divide along racial lines due to the slave history of this country.

It really sounds like Varus has been watching a wee too much of American History X and missing the ending repeatedly.
