We need to associate sex with a condom as being "the norm," and unprotected sex as being "abnormal."

Whether through brainwashing by those driver's ed. scare-videos, tv commercials, or some other factor, I wear my seatbelt 100% of the time nowadays. I put it on without even thinking about it. If I'm not wearing my seatbelt, it feels weird.

I think that's the sort of attitude we need to instill in kid's minds. Their decision on abstinence is going to come from any number of outside factors, but at least through sex ed we can possibly make wearing a condom the DEFAULT behavior, instead of one you make a decision to do.

The norm is and always will be no artificaly made object between the vigana and the *****!!!
You can't change that, because that is the way nature intended it to be.

Abstinence can never be the solution for anything, it's just not natural. The strongest motivation a teenager has is their sex drive. Expecting them not to do it is just ridiculous.

Also don't get it wrong about AIDs. In many countries, heterosexuals are the largest *at risk* group. It's a massive problem that can't be ignored, will eventually impact on the whole planet in so many different ways.

And to the person who wants all the US tax dollars spent in the States, sure, you can start by taking back the billions of dollars that are given each year to your 2 biggest Foreign Aid recipients - Israel and Egypt.

this is in response to HereJonny's comments about not trusting other childrens parents. when I was in high school we had just finished sex-ed and a friend a I were talking about Std's, his mother walked into the room and with a very unknowing look on her face said "what's an Std?"

I can't imagine what would have happend to this guy if sex-ed had been left up to his parents, or how long it would have taken for him to figure out what an Std was....

That's just a matter of changing terminology. When I was growing up, STDs were called VD.

So you think maybe the sex-ed teachers should show these pictures to the kids? Not work safe!

When I was in JR high, we had sex ed during health class and I remember our teacher showed us pictures of STD's like those!

I don't remember anything else relating to sex ed, but I definitely remember the STD pictures. Smiley: yikes

This is what I want the government to do. I want them to educate YOUR children because I DO NOT trust YOU to do it! Having sex one time can change your life for ever. It only takes one time to get pregnant, one time to catch herpes and one time to die (AIDS). And I'm supposed to just trust you and the guy down the street with my childrens health. Because we know that everyone gives their children comprehensive and accurate information on sex and STDs. And we all know that kids always make the right choices in the heat of the moment, and they never give in to peer pressure.

So what you're saying here is you're not a good teacher? Cause what I'm getting from this is you are worried about everyone elses kids infecting yours from lack of education. Now, I would have to say that if Bobby Sue down the street gave your little Timmy 'The Clap' you would be responsible. After all Timmy wouldn't have gotten 'The Clap' had you taught him well. Peer Pressure? Wouldn't happen if you'd have taught him to respect himself.

Just a thought.

My bad, I thought I was being clear. I do not believe my children will have a baby or catch an STD. What concern's me is Bobby Sue down the street giving your little Timmy 'The Clap', or him getting her pregnant. I guess next you'll argue that that would be your personal problem and not involve the rest of society.

I dunno i have a hard time reaching "climax" with a condom on, even with the ultra thin. But i still use them, im disease free and got no babies to take care of. Also ladies dont seem to mind when i take my time.

But really kids should be shown the hard facts of not wearing condoms, pictures of the effects of STD's on the genitals is what did it for me. My god i would strap on a jimmy hat everytime to ensure never getting any of those, im scarred for life.

Also i like UK idea of promoting oral sex, anyone that is against promoting oral sex needs to re-examine there priorities.

Still waiting to hear about these Smiley: wink
I suspect they're on the same website that covers eyewitness accounts of Kerry eating babies and Dubya walking on water.

Why are people talking about oral sex like it's "safe sex"?

I'd say we're not done with the sex education.

True Yanari, its not safe. I was just making a sophmoric joke about the fact that promoting people to practice oral sex is a good thing.

If i had to be serious; i would say you would have to try to provide teen agers with a source in which they can get unbiased, unfiltered information about sex that is accurate. Not just what they heard from friend or saw in a movie or on internet.

Maybe promote internet sites or other methods in which teens can ask questions and get feedback from health professionals about sex with complete anonymity ensured so they feel free to ask the questions.

Also showing graphic videos kinda like the dont drink and drive horror videos about STD's would scare children into condoms. And as trickybeck mentioned creating an atmosphere where condoms are looked upon as the "norm".

In the end your never gonna find a complete solution to the problem. Also the situation will evolve and change over time, how it should be tackled in 2004 and 2014 is gonna be different.

But as i posted earlier, the whole abstaining from sex and ignoring everything else is a poor method of dealing with it. I think that putting the fact that abstaining is the 100% way to be safe is very good to mention but i also think that ignoring educating children about sexual health will exacerbate the problem.

There is no easy solution, but we cant just go with the crackpot, not gonna work solution just because there has not been a "perfect" solution presented.

My 17 year old and her boyfriend will be staying at her sister's this weekend while attending at anime convention. I know better then to expect them to sleep in sperate beds, so for my peace of mind I'm going to once again have a safe sex talk with her.

I plan to give her a note saying I couldn't find a chasity belt, so got her the next best thing. Then hand her a box filled with codoms, latex gloves and dental dams.

I rather have her think I'm a nag then having a doctor have to give her bad news at a later date.

It's in case she dumps the boyfriend for a girlfriend.

Actually foreplay, since he's more likely to score after fingering her.

When was the last time folks, check latest safe sex recommations or got tested.

If I was worry I would get tested every 6 months. Instead I stay educated and have my doctor runs test every year when I go in for my pap smear.
