I seem to recall that you are in favor of the welfare system Smash. I would be very interested to know then, what are your views on piracy?

Oh, I suppose 'tis better to laugh than cry.

So much for a serious discussion. Too bad, I think this (laws related to digital rights) coupled with the terrorism issue (unfortunately) will be the defining issues for our generation.

Ahoy mates! Come aboard one an' all fer the second great Puzzle Pirates Parrrty, July 10th!

Yohoho! Pirate Parrrty

Saturday July 10th 2004, 8pm 'til 2am, Mission District, San Francisco. Free!
Does ye have the mettle fer a Pirate's life?

Join with crew of like-minded swashbucklers and scoundrels to quoff rum, dance to sea shanties and Piratey polkas, carouse, wench, rob, steal, and perhaps pillage.

Ye Pirate Parrrty is free of charge and the grog is courtesy of Three Rings, in celebration of the success of Puzzle Pirates. We will however be accepting donations o' doubloons at the door, or via paypal to party@threerings.net.

All mates must arrRSVP to party@threerings.net to reserve yer spot at the gangplank. All Pirates are welcome, but know ye well that ye must come in Piratey regalia, or we'll run yer through (or, if yer very lucky, shanghai yer into swashbuckling form at the door).

This party is 'No Costume, No Head.'

The Parrrty sets sail at the hour o' 8pm and goes until the early hours, at a secret pirate lair in ye Mission district o' San Francisco. Full location details will be disclosed in the reply to yer arrRSVP.

Rousing jigs shall be provided by such scurrilous DJs as might be found at sea. There will be dancin' and perhaps a few shanties. Budding DJ's an' musicians might drop me an email or check the Musicians topic on the forum.

Capn Cleaver has decreed that there shall be competitions an' prizes as follows;

Ye Pirate King an' Queen (them wi' the best costumes)
Shoutin' contest, fer most Piratey shoutin'
Starin' contest, fer most intent battles o' the Eye Eyes
Swordfightin' head to head on ye big screen
RSVP and enquiries to party@threerings.net. Piratey missives much appreciated. Arrr!

Feel free to pass this invite on to yer fellow crewmates and other brigands well known to ye, but please post not to great hosts of scurvy-ridden mailing lists full of toothless bilge-rats. Ye must have 18 years to attend ye party and 21 years upon ye to be drinkin.'

Welcome mates, to the secret Pirate Party location page. Ye party is at:

The Big House Studio
1417 15th Street @ Folsom
San Francisco CA 94103

The venue is a large warehouse space. Street parking is available, look on Folsom and Harrison (to the east). There are also some store lots that are probably useable in the dead of a Saturday night; Best Buy and OfficeMax on 14th and Harrison. Don't be leaving yer valuable booty visible in yer car! BART is a short walk from 16th and Mission. Don't drink and drive, mates!

All ye need to be bringing is yer Piratey selves in full costume. We shall provide yer grog and a few vittles, but we encourage yer to eat a good ballast before coming out.

How in the hell did I miss this!?!?

Hahahaha!

Well, I think there's a good argument to be made that information wants to be free and that you really can't do much to stop piracy.

The industries involved grossly inflate the theoretical losses it causes them. I don't recall the music industry going out of buisness when people started recording tapes for other people.

I think because it's a new medium involved that they're overreacting ludicrously.

Apple's got the right idea. Make it 10 cents a song and high bandwith and people aren't going to bother stealing it if it's easier to get and pay for.

Welfare is an anticaptialist concept, as is piracy.

Welfare is something capitalists made up to keep everone happy and stop revoloutions, workers are still getting exploited, but now they don't care because they get free chit from the government even though the government takes much more, this way nobody thinks they're being screwed.

Nothing cogent to add to the welfare/piracy discussion, just wanted to say:

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

that and:

Yes love, but why's the rum gone?
