Problem.
As Ariesdouche stated at one point, well douche doesnt deserve quotes but anyway...there's no way to find out if someone is a sockie. Well, maybe we can flame about this a little...
Why can't we have some kind of mutual agreement with an admin, to where maybe say... 5-10 people with a little status vote to NOT expose someone.... just their status if they are a sock or not? I don't think that would mess anything up really...

The official policy with sockpuppets is that they are left alone until they become a "problem". We determine when they reach that point.
I happen to personally disagree with this policy, as I think they should just be nuked without exception, but I follow the guidelines.
The criteria I generally use are:
Ratebots - if they are being used to bump up the master accounts karma, or downrate others, they are a problem, they are no-rated.
Abusive sockpuppets targetting a certian person - noposted and norated.
people using sockpuppes to support themselves in debates - I sometimes accidentally post hints as to who they belong to.
any sockpuppet made by anyone with less than 50 posts of their own in the first place, that I have verified to be sockpuppets - obliterated.

Stok, you see "no harm, no foul". I've seen it almost kill this forum twice. Remember Cuda, a_orc_pawn_01, ominus trusk? their arrival signaled the first exodus of people from the board. In pm's and e-mails, when I asked people why they left, the answer almost always included "and there were just too many sock puppets around".
Then there was the god/allah/jesus/bhudda/burnsey/kilgore trout/all of thundras other sockpuppet. It got so bad that we had a record number of people leave.
Some people think it is harmless. a few people think it is funny, most people get annoyed by it.
the sentiment there is mutual. I like hearing about how your coffee venture is going, and you usually add alot to the threads you post in,except for when you break out the puppets.
Sure there may be some people here that could be considered annoying, but at least they take responsability for what they say.

Hello all, nice to see everything is still going the same.
You can please most of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people anytime. Keep on trying though. Don't get me wrong there are annoying sock puppets around and I created a few. But you also have to admit some puppets have been helpful in keeping the forum moving during slow periods.
But(t) this is not entertaining so I'll move onto something else.
BTW I take responsibility for what I say, it's when those voices in my head take over, that I can't control what is said by any puppets if I had any.

Call it any political sock-puppet, though the vast majority of them are Pubbie ones. Really, there's little need to make a pro-Kerry puppet; you might get a response from Totem, Gbaji.. and maybe Stok and Moe on a good day. Pro-Bush puppets have a much larger audience to reach out to.
