The stick as weapon. Perhaps it all started with that violent inspiration (like in 2001 A Space Odyssey).

The printing press...farming techniques were discovered not invented.

....my original answer of "Fire" was pointed out to me to not be an Invention.

I would be so inclined to correct this to "Camp Fire".

HOwever my roomate(who is usually shouting at ESPN and making up perverted rap lyrics) declared "Written Language". I think that I must agree.

I would have to say playing cards are the worlds greatest invention. For centruys they have kept man entertained with little to no investment. Plus you can gamble with em.

Replacing the expensive DICE which provided the exact same function at less cost? Do you really think the first playing cards were inexpensive? You're talking about a time where most people had maybe heard of a book once but never seen one.

To make a long story short, I don't take any responsibility for anything I post here. It's not news, it's not truth, it's not serious. It's parody. It's satire. It's bitter. It's angsty. Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

I would rather list inventors rather than inventions, for the simple reason that great inventors continue to work on and improve their ideas as they age. To choose one idea and take it out of context of a person's life is to do their life's work harm. That being said, I would list:

Herodotus
Hippocrates
Socrates

For the nineteenth century to present, I would list Alfred Pollen as the most important and influential, with Jonas Salk a close second.
