You know, I've listened to this song so many times, and I don't get the phone call in the song.

"You just better start sniffin' your own rank subjugation jack 'cause it's just you against your tattered libido, the bank and the mortician, forever man and it wouldn't be luck if you could get out of life alive"

Just WTF does it mean? I don't get it!

Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

Kelv, Guns n' Roses covered the song, Bob Dylan is the original singer. So what does the lyric have to do with GnR, when Dylan wrote it?

I thought Bob Dylan was dead, but apparently he's still alive... Though I doubt I'll have a chance to ask him, Smash.

I was hoping someone could link me to some previous discusison of it, or something.
#5 Jun 18 2004 at 9:23 AM Rating: Decent
Smash he's talking about the Guns & Roses version, Bob Dylan's version dosn't have a phone call in the middle of it not that I know of??

I'm pretty sure it does, but I guess I could be wrong. I haven't listened to Dylan's version in literally years. I'll have to find out.

So I guess Kelv's post might not have been irrevelant afterall. Well, less irrevelant.

Still, I'm wondeirng what the phone call is all about.

In Your opinion GnR suck in 30 million rock fans opinion they where a very talented band that threw away thier chance for a couple of years worth of total debauchary <some would say it wasn't a bad trade.>

Saying that Slash and Duffs new band are pretty good too.

30 million meat-headed suckers.

It's hair metal.

All those bands just try to be Zepplin, and fail miserably. With their perms and high pitched squeeling and there "oh I'm such a rebel" attitude.

AC/DC sucks too.

Alive, on tour and making records. I saw him a couple years ago on tour. It was a great show (except for the drunk jock behind me who kept wailing "Boooobbbbbbbyyyy through the whole show).

I'd highly recommend his Love and Theft album from 2001. This recommendation comes from someone who has never been known as a Bob Dylan fan.

Led Zepplin were something special, I saw Robert Plant and Jimmy Page on tour a couple of years back, Certainly not Led Zepplin but definately worth the ticket price.
I never saw the whole legend just Half, and that still put the bands of today in their shadow.
I agree with Kelv, bands today try to be Rebels. Bands trashing hotel rooms. Keith Richards through a TV out the window that started a trend, but he was the real rebel the others just wannabes.
People try to be rebelious or controversial today where as those that were like Zepplin, Hendrix, Dylan, the stones, Marley the grateful dead, and even Elvis (yep even he was at his time)were controversial without trying to be.
You watch Bands of today throwing as many F'words and curses they can into a song, claiming it helped them get their views across. None of the above needed to, their Lyrics were far more powerful. (Except Elvis who was condemed for his Pelvis).
They changed peoples views where as bands today grab children already looking to be rebelious and already agree with what they are saying.

I like Dylan, I just though, y'know, he was old years ago, so he's gotta be dead now.

Kelv, you're an idiot if you think GnR and AC/DC suck. They're not trying to be Led Zeppeling, and that's a stupid thing to say. They sound VERY different. Unless you don't understand music at all. I'm guessing you don't.

For anyone who is informed on the subject, or has heard the aformentioned song, realizes what I'm speaking of. However, as you apparently haven't, you do not have the qualifications required to be able to answer my question. Your lack of knowledge is being manifested in a poor attempt to make me look stupid, which actually makes you look the fool when one realizes that no one has attempted to even answer my question. They have merely stated that they don't know.

So yes, that means no one has any answers for me. I believe that is within your comprehension. Am I correct, or do I have to simplify it further?

Kelv, you degrade yourself just by posting/

And no, you didn't invent Music, you invented some half-asses **** you would like to call music, but can't, because it wouldn't fit any definition of the word.

I've heard the song, both versions, quite a bit, actually. I am well versed in Dylan, as well as Guns and Roses. When you ask a question about a sh1tty cover of a great song of angst that, among quite a few others, embodied the feelings of a generation during a time of national growing pains, make sure you refer to the sh1tty cover song. I am not trying to make you look stupid, cholo, you are accomplishing that all on your own.

Guns and Roses was a crappy hair band with a damn fine guitar player for the era. AC/DC may not suck, but they were, and continue to be, a one trick pony with nothing of note to offer history in their music. You want to have a discussion about music? Let's have one. But do us all a favor and end the non-sequiter questions that don't make a f'ucking bit of sense in the first place.

Yeah, they were espicially good at ripping of every blues song recorded by poor black men in the 40's and 50's and playing the, nearly verbatim with electic guitars making a metric asston of money in the process.

Bob Dylan has had a groundshaking impact on our musical heritage.
Guns n Roses will be known only as a novelty act.
And as for Led Zeppelin...I'll never forgive Jimmy Page for allowing Puff Daddy to rape the song that singlehandedly changed my perspective of music.
Thank You

It's fairly clear they were influenced by T.Rex and Bowie. Look at the way they dress. Even Slash AND Joe Perry copped Marc Bolan's look. (Gibson Les Paul, low slung, curly hair in face and in Slash's case even the Top hat).
