Ok, I have some experience with this diet and its opponents, so I will tell you what I have found to be true.
First off, does it work? Yes.
Does that mean you should do it? No.
If you cut any food group totally out of your diet, you will lose weight. If the body is deprived of something it needs, it will find it somewhere else, and weight loss occurs. It's a bit more complicated than that, but you get the idea.
So the question to ask yourself is this: What do I want to cut out? Should I cut out the healthy fruits and veggies that God made for me to eat and enjoy, or should I cut out the fatty meats, cheeses, and breads? Let me make a quick disclaimer here: not all meats, cheeses, and breads are bad, but most are.
If you want meat, eat poultry or seafood. Cheese? Stay away if you can, none of it is particularly good for you. Breads? Whole wheat.
If you want to check out a good healthy program, go find the book "Fit For Life" by Harvey Diamond. It's good stuff, and is working for me right now. Plus, it's easy to stay on. None of this diet-for-2-weeks-then-gain-it-back garbage.
Think about it: Do you think we were created in such a way that we are supposed to have to count carbs and calories and grams and all that just to remain healthy? No sir. Rather, you should eat what you know is healthy and beneficial to your body. Not that you can't splurge every now and then, but focus on eating on what is good for you.
