I guess I'll add a suggestion. Some of the shadows are in the right place but it lacks value. Now Value is the intesity of a shadow which gives it a 3D look. Black -> Medium black -> Grey -> Pale grey -> White. Check out this sketch it's not mine but it's a good example. http://drawsketch.about.com/library/graphics/old_boots_tone.jpg
If you mix any of these with another colour it'll give the hue a tint. Bright red -> Deep Red. But with photoshop thankfully! There is the
Burn and Dodge tool which makes shadows on three levels. "Shadow", "Mid tone" and "Highlight"
Here's what the burn/dodge tool did for me. Now, it doesn't take one shot to get the same results! It takes constant practice! Never give up! ^^;; I have tips for line art and inking aswell but if you wanna know jsut ask!
EDIT: Also! When making shadows, make it spread out more. Right now the shades look like little slivers. To study more about light and shadow look around at still like objects. Turn on a lamp put an object under it. Me, Personally..I don't like reading "How-to books." It has good examples but it won't guarentee you 100% success. I observe closely and try to correct any mistake I make before even finishing. But if How-to books float your boat ~ go for it. Everyone has a diffrent way on approching these things! But always keep an open mind cuz' something better or just as good may come along! ^o^ Kay! I'm done my little prep talk! lol
