Voters are increasingly concerned that Iraq is a quagmire America cannot escape, and they are doubtful that a democratic government will be established there, according to the poll published in Friday editions of the Times.

Fifty-three percent of respondents said the situation in Iraq did not merit war, while 43 percent said war was justified. When the same question was asked for Times polls in March and November, the numbers were precisely reversed.

Give me a call when you spend twelve years in uniform and we can argue over if it's wrong to shoe the flag upside down or not.

I missed that post when it originally went up, so Smash's background was new to me. I've got to say it's impressive. While I may not agree with ole Smashy on some issues, I'm still impressed.

It just goes to show the value of a poll-- one day people think that green cheese on the the cafeteria pizza is important, the next day they prefer a taco with ostrich meat. All that proves is the vapidity of the typical man-on-the-street's opinion.

It just shows support for your boy consistently sliding away as the war presses on. But hey! That'll all be over in a few weeks when we hand power over to the Iraqis!

smash i'd love a link to a rant you may have done about the handover or any part of that. I'm still clueless as to the implications of it all.

Anyone else too, fair game.

Of all the posts that I have seen on this forum since the begining of the Allakhazam website, this one needs the most attention and yet confirms a suspicion.

Please, Please do not take anything that anyone posts on this forum and form your own opinion from it. If you are clueless go to google and conduct a search and read multiple threads on the topic.

Smash is an intelligent person as well as others, but if you are sincere in your request, look to other sources. Do not take what someone posts here at 100% face value. Not even this post ;)

Lol. No. It shows that if you take a poll about a significant event 2 weeks before the event occurs, accompanied with a significant amount of negative slant towards that event to it, you will end up with poll results that show that people aren't confident about the results of the event.

Um... How meaningless is this poll? It's like 5 guys standing around a 6th who's replacing a flat tire taking bets as to whether he'll be able to do it. Why the hell not just wait and see?

This serves *no* purpose other then fearmongering. The Times couldn't wait 3 weeks to get actual data about the transition before slamming it? Madness!

Why? Are you feeling like you missed out on extra dry cleaning bills or sumptin? Go buy a blue dress, hop in the backseat with your boyfriend, polish his knob for a bit, then let him hose you down to cool you off.

Finish off your hot date with him affecting a southern accent and saying, "Ah did not have sex with that woman."

Presto! The Clinton years in 45 seconds or less.

An email I got today. No idea if its true:

Quote:
Subject: Bush Sr. on Iraq

In his memoirs, "A World Transformed," written five years ago, George Bush, Sr. wrote the following to explain why he didn't go after Saddam Hussein at the end of the Gulf War:

"Trying to eliminate Saddam...would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible.... We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq....

There was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of our principles. Furthermore, we had been consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land."

If only his son could read.

Doesn't **** me off.

Actually Pre 9/11 (Remember that day?) we would have been foolish to have gone in and take out Saddam. Post 9/11 Removing the Taliban from Afghanistan and taking out Saddam and his regime and consequently having to rule Iraq until Democracy could be established has for the short term appeared to be foolish and settling a vendetta. However as historians look back on this justified invasion of a terrorist supporting state (not specifically al quaeda) that the pre-emptive decision will have been a major victory for the survival and protection of western civilizations. We are (collectively) viewing only a small part of the big picture. Since none of us none "high official" government types do not and probably will not ever have all the details to see the entire Big Picture. So until the finite details that can be released are, all we can do is hope that the next several years is limited in lives lost from the Coalition and the Iraqi's while the stage is set for the 21st Century and the poltics of the world post New Iraq.

That is my humble opinion on the matter.

Thanks for contributing this to the discussion though, it was helpful.

Have A Nice Day :)
