Yan, you cant seriously think that it is ok for transexual's to compete against the sex they were transformed into? It is clearly not fair. If you are born a gender you are always that gender no matter what kind of cosmetic surgery you have. This decision is cleary wrong.

Actually I wasn't even addressing the issue of the thread. I'm just fed up with f'ucktard posters whose pinnacle of life wisdom is: vaporize (or otherwise exterminate) the human race. To them I say "you first".

To the topic, you need to learn a bit more about sex change procedures if you think it's simply a matter of cosmetic surgery. The hormone treatments facilitate some quite profound physical changes. Bone and muscle mass change, hair growth (or lack thereof) is affected, etc..

It wouldn't be the first time a transexual competed on the athletic arena against a person of their chosen gender. Apparently it's becomming more commonplace.

I just think it's an open invitation for someone to cheat. I mean just because the doctor prescibes the meds doesnt mean I have to take them. I know that's kind of an extreme measure to take but it isnt like we havnt seen people go to ridiculous ends to win the olympics in the past. I dont think they should be able to compete they should just have to compete with the gender they were born.

If you want to compete in high level athletic events it sure does. They check for these things (among others) in the urinalysis

Ok but it takes along time for those hormones to actually do anything right? All you have to do to get them to show up in your pee is take a couple pills a couple of days before the test. presto you pass the test and go on about your business. Seriously if they are that good at their chosen sport compete against the best of your born gender.
#10 May 18 2004 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, then.

They should have a Gender Meter that can tell what percentage Male or Female that the athlete is.

Gives a whole to meaning to "I'm ALL MALE".

yes I read the article
Under a proposal approved by the IOC executive board, athletes who have undergone sex-change surgery will be eligible for the Olympics if their new gender has been legally recognized and they have gone through a minimum two-year period of postoperative hormone therapy.

The decision, which covers both male-to-female and female-to-male cases, goes into effect starting with the Athens Olympics in August.

The IOC had put off a decision in February, saying more time was needed to consider all the medical issues.

Some members had been concerned whether male-to-female transsexuals would have physical advantages competing against women.

Men have higher levels of testosterone and greater muscle-to-fat ratio and heart and lung capacity. However, doctors say, testosterone levels and muscle mass drop after hormone therapy and sex-change surgery (search).

IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said the situation of transsexuals competing in high-level sports was "rare but becoming more common."

IOC medical director Patrick Schamasch said no specific sports had been singled out by the ruling.

"Any sport may be touched by this problem," he said. "Until now, we didn't have any rules or regulations. We needed to establish some sort of policy."

Until 1999, the IOC conducted gender verification tests at the Olympics but the screenings were dropped before the 2000 Sydney Games.

One of the best known cases of transsexuals in sports involves Renee Richards, formerly Richard Raskind, who played on the women's tennis tour in the 1970s.

In March, Australia's Mianne Bagger (search) became the first transsexual to play in a pro golf tournament.

Michelle Dumaresq, formerly Michael, has competed in mountain bike racing for Canada.

please show me where it addresses anything about testing?

What, do you think they do, take their ****** word on this or something? Its called documentation, dumbass, from the doctor most likely. Not to mention sex change surgery kinda requires cutin' and slicin', not that that would be, oh I don't know, ****** obvious to even a layman.

Its not brain surgery its just plain using your brain.

ok "dumbass" the doctor prescribes the meds. SO obviously they HAVE to take them. Not to mention like you couldnt get a doctor to say just about anything for the right amount of money or say from a country that might oh my gosh cheat as an institution. North Korea and or China come to mind.

I never said that someone would try and pass themselves off as a woman while actually being a man moron. I said allowing someone who has the physical makeup of a man (albiet sands the nuts) competing against women is an open door for cheating.

Because, of course, slicing off a guys balls is all thats required to make him a woman and HEY! I know! lets slap on a plastic **** on a chick and now shes a guy. The hormons aint flinstones vitamins dumbass, they do the **** natured would have, had they born the other sex.

I really don't think a 6'2 200 lbs "woman" in need of a shave and a full body bikini wax is going to get past any sort of screening, sans nuts or not.

Are you naturally this stupid or do you take pills? I think that I have said numerous times that these transgender atheletes could very easily not take the hormones. Just because a doctor prescribes them does not mean the person has to take them. Maybe I am missing something here. I mean is the doctor gonna be testing these people everytime they come into the office to ensure they are taking the pills? If not then how can he know other than what the patient tells him? In addition to that the olympics has a history of countries doing anything to win at the olympics. Cant you see that this opens a huge window of oppurtunity for someone to cheat the system? If these individuals really want to compete in the olympics and are that good at their respective sports then with all the sacrificies that olympic atheletes make postponing taking these hormones so that they can compete against their born gender is that much to ask.

I find this an interesting article mainly because it inspires a feeling of 'look how far we've come'. Its amazing to see that people are thinking about topics that would've previously been considered taboo to even discuss.

A couple additions to the topic though; first of all, there are many cases of trasngender that are not voluntary- we all start in the womb with no sex organs, and are then more-or-less female and then grow male sex organs (called masculenization). This process is caused by the class of hormones called androgens. Some people do not respond to androgen and therefore are born genetically male, but without male sex organs or partial sex organs(hermaphrodites). In some cases it's not until puberty that these people learn that they are really male... imagine the confusion they go through; some decide to live as males and say they always felt like a boy, others continue to live as women. If you read the stories of some of these people you realize that gender is a very complicated thing- are we men or women because we are born with XY or XX chromosomes? or is it our hormones that make us male or female? I would say that the most complicated and influencial organ in our body is the brain... if your brain decides it wants to be male of female, then thats what you are.

So with all that out on the table (or on the screen), how does that affect the olympics... who knows, the olympics are just some silly sports; what really matters here is that we are finally starting to be more understanding about things that we previously used to make rash judgements about (hooray for educution!).... then again based on the posters above we may still have a long way to go when it comes to the average joe (or josephine).

I will say it in small words for you: The hormone pills are perscribed so that they cause a change in a persons body. What exactly do you not understand in that? If they decide not to take it over the required two year period it would be painfully obvious to a trained proffesional (the doctor, if you are keeping up here) that nothing was happening. Is that a hard concept to you? Do you need a few FFXI kiddies to explain it to you, I am sure they understand the ****** concept, everyone else here does.

Git I totally understand what you are saying apparently what you fail to realize is that PEOPLE CHEAT even doctors. This opens the window for such people. That's all I am saying. Why is that so hard for you to understand? Do you honestly believe that someone who gets a sex change couldnt get a doctor to say yes he/she has been taking the homones I swear, whether or not the person actually was? Come on. For goodness sake the Russian women in the seventies had more testosterone coursing through their veins than 10 normal men.

Most olympic atheletes train their entire lives for a shot to win a medal in one competition. Some people will go to any extreme to gain an advantage.
