I'm not sure if Cthulhu is actually even copyrighted, though, considering the massive amount of novels written including him, among the many allusions to him in hundreds of other things. I mean, Lovecraft's followers have written tons of books including Cthulhu and the other Elder Gods
It's copyrighted. I hae a freind who's a copyright lawyer who consulted for Chaosium (who made the Call of Cthullu game) and they had some kind of big ***** up where they were paying the wrong guy for lisencing or something.

I am wondering if may be all about mocking the Age of Pisces or somthing.... Lovecraft and Christianity never really seem to uhh. play well together.... so we have Jesus Fish..and Astral Demon Fish.... hmm
And an octopus god.
my theory is that the "form" of these entities are relative to the psyche of the person percieving them... Lovecraft must have had some aquatic complex...... There is quite a similarity with them to the old Babylonian Gods... like Marduk..heheh
Unless.. those entities have Such a will that they can Will wahtever shape they want into the head of us Earthly folk.... and they really ARe fish and octopi.
but i don't think so... Shape and Form are purly Earthly concepts.. (Malkuth concepts).. I think an un-Earthly entity wouldn't really be concerned about thier own shape... just let it be the by-product of the insane humans imagination...

I think it was more that water is inherantly clostrophobic, which is the driving force behind most of the HPL fear.
