OOT Question about a game...Follow

Just curious to if anyone here plays Magic: The Gathering. If so, curious to if you've also been reading the new books. I've found the Mirrodin books and expansions quite interesting.

I have played MtG for 7 or so years, the present sets are about average, nothing special and boring as hell in limited.

My wife reads the books but i find them very 'Pulp' fantasy which isn't what i look for when i pick up a book. I have read 3 on recommendation from my wife and they where not bad< not Eddingd or fiest by any stretch but not bad.

Yeah I play Magic.

No wait, I'm not in 7th grade anymore, correction, I used to play Magic the Gathering.

Carry on.

when i was in the navy i used to give this guy a ride to the card shop every once in a while. i saw him drop almost $300 on a card once...a single card! i don't know much about that game, but $12.95 a month is enough.

I played with friends and we became discouraged over deck disperties so we invented - brace yourself right wingers - communist magic.

Toss all cards into single pile - ensure you have about 40% land and that color of cards is equally distrbuted or if disperities exist that they are known by all candidates.

Each time you draw a card, you actually draw 3 and get to pick which one to keep.

Other games which worked well commie style were Shadowfist and Illumenati. Illumenati was very funny: Boy Scouts are controlled by the Catholic Church...hmmm...I always suspected as much...but wait so is MTV?

Illumenati was from the mid-1990's I think so you had George Bush, both Clintons, Sadam, etc., and you would get very silly combinations of them.

Shadowfist was like a b-martial arts movie: you had all the cliches - drunken master, Really Big Gun, the nameless enemy (shadowy horror), etc.

There was a Call of Cthulu collectable card game where when you summoned mosters you lost health - called "sanity" - so you had to be careful. It did not work well commie style because your deck actually basically had a "plot" to it. But it was an awesome game design.

I LOVE MtG.

I used to play with the paper cards, but with how much I collect I just had cards and not enough people to play. I eventually quit.

Then MtG:O (Online) came out. Well there went the money again. I'm pleased with my collection, but the game has sucked since 2.0 came out. Bugs and server instability are the norm rather than the exception now so I'm either waiting for them to fix 2.0 again or bring out 3.0 before I play or buy more cards. During version 1.0, I had quit EQ to devote time to Magic and played every day for a little over a year, I hope Magic Online becomes worth spending that much time on again.

As far as the books, I love to read and even hope to write Sci-Fi/Fantasy, but have not checked out the Magic books. If enough people here like them, maybe I'll check them out when I have time. I tend to be weary of books that come out based games though as more often than not they don't live up to expectations and are just another gimmick to suck money out of people based on a popular franchise.
