The only reason I even mentioned other bands was to point out their inadequacies.

Seems to me that's the primary reason you mention anything.Smiley: wink2

Limp Bizcut (ha, just kidding, Fred knows he sucks, he says so himself "I know why you want to hate me")

Limp Bizkit's front man, Fred Durst. Despite getting a glowing reference from a previous West Coast Choppers client, supermodel and FOJ Tyson Beckford, Durst was turned down. Seems the rock star tried to buy his way to the top of Jesse's production schedule. Durst was politely told to go away. Says James: "I only build bikes for cool people."

At least it's finally become recognized as a pattern. :)

The Cure

20+ years and still putting out music that is pure poetry, emotion, and most importantly, music that actually matters.

Best Band Ever? One figures that it therefore must: 1) stand the test of longevity and 2) be multi-generation popular. Furthermore, I am assuming we're talking basic ROCK and not folk, swing, bluegrass, "country" (my son says that doesn't qualify as music), reggae, "light" rock, etc. Lastly - a single band, not a series of bands that have had one or two co-members.

So - by using my own test group, that being my folks (ages 74 and 70), me (49)& my wife (58), and our kids (both 17)...

Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Queen
Pink Floyd
The Who

...in that order...
...I'm missing someone - I can't remember who...
...but I'm SURE you'll remind me...

My personal fav band would have to be Queen too. And even though he's not a band, Prince ranks up there for me. Well, he has a band...

I used to really like Metallica but they kinda blew it for me with their self righteous ire over music sharing on the internet.

This question/topic is far too broad for consideration. What qualifies as "best" - Longevity? Marketability/profitability? Popularity? Influence? It's also hard to pin anything down by genre.

My votes, for "best" bands, following criteria of popularity and influence, in random order.

Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Elvis Presley
The Doors

My own problem is that I don't acknowledge any bands post-1980s. Hell I can hardly recognize or differentiate most bands playing these days. Yes, I'm a die-hard 'classic rock' fan, though the 60s-70s era was arguably the most influential time in modern music.

this list can be very long, as I have a different opinion for almost every genre. I'll try to summarize to a few. its also dependant on how you define "a band". if you truly want to stick to "a band" then its more limited.

the first entry here might possibly be the hardest thing for me to type as only one other person in this thread has mentioned them...sigh..here goes:

System of a Down
Metallica
Korn
Faith No More
Gorilla Biscuits
Lagwagon
Creed
Incubus
Roni Size
Outkast
Eminem
Jay-Z
Nappy Roots
Tribe Called Quest
Soul Coughing
Bob Marley
Sublime
Jimmy Buffet
Freaky Flow
Jungle Brothers

the list could go on forever..

most talented though? would have to say Eminem, Sublime, Metallica or System of a Down. those 4 have definate landmarks in my head. IMO, whether you like the music or not...you can't deny that there is talent there. i think its because of the raw emotion that drives almost every song.

Go out and buy "Home" by Sevendust. This has to be one of my favorite CDs of all time. If you like it, buy "Somewhere in Between" by Systematic. I can't give you a garuntee, but I can assure you that those are some of the best current bands out there, even if nobody else has heard of them.

This goes for anyone who likes rock/metal.

Foo Fighters don't get mentioned at all? Horse-swag!

Talk about music to feel sexy to. Prince in his heyday just can't be beat. Makes a girl wanna get dolled up and shake it.

Prince has a new album coming out this month. And yeah, Flea, I'm with you on his older stuff (International Lover comes to mind...), but I'll be interested to see what this new album will have, since he's been out of the game for so long.

Oh yeah Totem, thanks for bringing them up. Loves me some "Flashlight"

Prince is too artsy-fartsy for me. What was with the weird name that looked like this:

What a goofball.

There are hundreds of bands that make good music and have staying power. Some groups get noticed, others dont. For a band to be classified as great depends not only on their music , but the personalitys inside the group.
U2
Bob Marley & The Whalers
Ziggy Stardust aka Bowie
Gensis (Peter Gabrielle although Phill Collins has probably one of the most well know songs in history ,"in the Air At Night" )
The Beetles
Nirvana
Janes Addiction
GnR
Radiohead
VanHalen (W/Roth)
Beastie Boys (they still around 20 Years later :P)
Metalica
Sting - Pure Talent

My absolute favorite band is U2. Always will be. As for best band ever I don't believe that has one answer because everyone has differing opinions.

i'm not talking about being white and getting respect in the hip-hop scene..or his ability to **** people off (giving people what they are asking for)...i'm talking about his skills as a lyricist. that boy finds ways to rhyme words and phrases that make you scratch your head and go "did he...how he just do that?"
