Rage Against the Machine

Closely followed by Sevendust and Stone Temple Pilots. Not the best bands ever, just my favorite bands at the moment.

The best band ever was The Beatles. Nobody else comes close to having had the musical, cultural and social impact they did.

An argument could be made for The Rolling Stones on the same basis, Death. Not only that, but they have the added weight of having performed up until just recently and --AND --they didn't have Ringo Starr tagging along.

Any discussion on this has to reasonably include Led Zepp, Areosmith (despite their cocaine years), The Kinks, and Boy George.

And maybe the Monkees.

Then theres always The Ramones, Misfits, Black Flagg, Billy Idol, The Sex Pistols, Operation Ivy.

For every genre of music there is a "Best Band Ever".

And FYI, if you like grunge, listen to some Mudhoney or Screaming Trees... x 10 better than Nirvana ever thought to be.

I'll say the Beatles over the Stones. At least they had the good sense to break up before they became fodder for comedy.

Also the various Clapton bands, and the Traveling Wilburys. Love me some Roy Orbison!

RACK Roy Orbison and those Hubble telescopes he wore on his face. But boy-howdy, he made some great music.

/points at Flea in acknowledgment of the assist as they run down court*

And the Beatles didn't have Bill Wyman becoming his own father-in-law (or whatever he turned out to be).

The Stones also stopped being musically and socially significant about 1979. Ever since then they've just been Rolling Stones Inc., a subsidiary of Musicorp Unlimited - that is to say, a purely business venture with zero artistic merit. Give them their due, but take points away for never having the good sense to bow out gracefully. IMHO The Who were always two steps ahead of the Stones anwyay.

I'm a huge Kinks fan (really, I am!), and Ray Davies has written tons of great songs - he never really gets the credit he deserves, but even I can't argue them as being the best ever.

And Boy George! Well... suffice it to say that nobody else is even on the same plane as he (and I'm not sure anyone wants to be).

There are no opinions on this matter. It is quite obviously a fact that Alice Cooper is the best band, ever.

Lol, Angry doesn't show his face around here for weeks, but I mention him twice today and-- PRESTO!

He's like a freaking genie. Rub his Playgirl mag three times and discuss music and he'll convey himself on a cloud of smoke into the conversation by highlighting the salient points of Alice Cooper's somewhat memorable career.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. How ya doin', Angry? Post a bit more, buddy, we miss you.

The Beatles were fun. They had some catchy tunes and decent lyrical story telling from John & Paul. George was a damn decent guitar player (TRIVIA: Who is Le'angelo Mysterioso? Damn, I spelled it wrong). Ringo was definitely the weak link.

The Stones are always, or rather, were, good for a listen. No slouches there, and most of the music pre-1970 was great.

Rage is the ****. 4 albums and only half of the last one sucked.

Nirvanna? Please. Cobain was no Jim Morrison, no matter how much some of you whiney Xers want to make him out to be one.

Hippo lives on a plane of existence where there is no music other than Alice Cooper, so that explains his homosexual interest in the mad man.

Where's the vote for the Dead? Do they just not count because they couldn't keep a keyboard player alive? Hmm.

"Clapton Bands" got a nod, but really, how can one put the whole group up there? Cream was the only one of true note, and even though the discography is a short one, true genius really only needed so much canvas to be displayed.

But when we talk about the best band ever, the total package really has to include a group that can thunder to the heights of heaven and rattle St. Peter in his boots, while in the same breath, sink a hand to the bowels of hell and stick a bird in the devils beak.

With a guitar riff that could shuffle loose the mortal coil anyone foolish enough to stand in front of his stacks, Jimmy Page is truly a man touched by the finger of God. The deal he made with the devil just finished the job.

A thundrous assault on the aural senses, Bonzo created a rhythem that attacked your body and soul, leaving you nothing more than a quivering pile of goo at the end of a night.

The strongest substances on the planet, out side of pure hardened carbon, all need a cohesion agent. John Paul Jones was the glue. His musicality brought the back end together so smoothly that even the roughest, most ramshackle riffs flowed from the speakers like a fine wine.

The man in front, with his rock and roll pants, his rock and roll wail and his rock and roll attack on life, Robert Plant, brought in on home. He was the exclamation point on the emphatic sentence that was...

Led Zeppelin, the greatest band of all time.

What F*cking planet are you on Pericolo? they made 3 albums 1 alright and 2 $hit, had 1 or maybe 2 top ten hits and in the process destroyed the rock industry for 10 F*cking years.

Damn i would put Justin Trousersnake above them in mucical influence.

Best band ever? I would say Metallica not because they are more talented but because they stayed sucsessful in spite of the totally Apathy towards metal that Nirvana created.

For those that put the Beatles just remember that Def Leppard have sold more albums than the beatles in the states. God knows how but they have.

Queen are also up there with the greats.

On that note, where is the vote for the Eagles? I'm sure that I'm not the only kid in my generation who has felt the nystalgia towards classic music like that. Damn that's good stuff.

I'm also surprised that nobody has mentioned Guns N' Roses. C'mon all you 80's rockers! Stand up and be counted!

I can't figure out Kiss. When I was like 8 the"older man" I had a crush on liked Kiss, but even at that tender age I could tell they sucked. I just didn't want to spoil my chances of getting a ride on his motorcycle by telling him.

Was it Lennon or Mcartney who replied when asked by an interviewer:

"Isn't Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world?"

"He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles."

Maybe because once you stop getting stoned regularly Pink Floyd loses about 97% of its appeal.

I love me some:
System of a Down
Rage
Weezer
Cake
Metalica
Limp Bizcut (ha, just kidding, Fred knows he sucks, he says so himself "I know why you want to hate me")
Incubus
Pink Floyd
Queen

Nobody else here likes System enough to even mention them? Sure, not the greatest band, but neither is Rage.
#26 Mar 18 2004 at 10:03 AM Rating: Good
Meh. The only reason I even mentioned other bands was to point out their inadequacies. All the others are cool, and all. But when you get right down to it, there can be only one. Led Zep, baby.
